Alpha's Cursed Mate novel Chapter 8

Estelle's POV

I took advantage of the gap in the man's shower to sneak out the door, and he wouldn't let me run away? Brandon's face flashed before my eyes, and a few buttons of my shirt were ripped off by him. After what I had just gone through, there was no way I could stay in the same room with a strange man. Tension and anxiety fried my heart, even if the man didn't do anything out of the ordinary.

But I underestimated the Alpha's hearing, and the man caught me before I even made it to the door. My elbow striking backward could only hit his firm pecs.

"Let me go!" The man covered my mouth with his hand just as I opened it. Without saying a word he dragged me into his room again.

I was thrown on the couch, "How far do you think you can run? This is my wolf pack." The man's black hair slipped a few strands on his forehead and his alpha aura left me breathless.

My hands couldn't stop trembling and the man could clearly see it. He withdrew his aura. "I told you I wouldn't do anything to you."

"It's not because of you."

"What?"

"It's not because of you. Don't you want to know why I ran out?" I didn't know where I got the courage to look the man in the eye and say to him. "I stabbed our future Alpha."

Lance's expression finally changed a little, and I continued, "I'm trying to protect myself."

"Why?"

I kept my mouth shut and silent, and the man understood what I meant.

"I can smell blood all the time, are you hurt?"

I showed him my left hand, which I had just been sticking in my pocket. I didn't expect him to find it long ago. The man took out a medical kit from the cabinet.

"I'll bandage it for you, or do you want to do it yourself?"

I took the medical kit. "Okay." He said, "I didn't think you... But you'd better not go out, it's dangerous for people to find you. I won't touch you."

I wiped the wound on my hand with alcohol and a searing pain almost made me scream. I sprinkled powder on the wound and then wrapped the bandage with one hand with difficulty. But the bandage kept slipping off my hand, and Lance finally couldn't stand by anymore.

"Is it okay if I help you? If you don't trust me, I can close my eyes." He revealed a confidence that he could wrap better than me even with his eyes closed.

I offered my hand to him, "OK. Please."

The man wrapped a bandage around my hand carefully, his dark blue pupils still could not reflect any light even in the light of the room. I could not stare into the eyes of this man, or his eyes would suck my soul away. Still a little close, I could smell the smell of silver sage on the man, like the taste of metal solid and cold.

"Okay." The man hesitated for a moment, as if to gain my trust, and said to me, "My name is Lance, and I am the Alpha of Eclipse wolf pack. I guess you've heard of the Legion."

"I thought the Legion was a nickname made by someone else."

"That's right, but it's a name everyone is used to and our people are okay with it."

"So you've heard all those rumors about your wolf pack, too?"

"I've heard some of it." Lance said this with an expression like any other, and I suspected he had little emotion.

It made me wonder, he didn't seem like the kind of person who would put up with rumors. And some of the rumors were really outrageous. I once heard that the Alpha of the Legion was a scarred monster weighing hundreds of pounds, and that they eat people. But except for the first time he tried to kill me, he seemed like a very normal person.

To make sure his last attack wasn't a dream I had, I still asked Lance about the night we first met.

"Have we met before?"

"Why do you want me to go to bed so badly?"

Of course I couldn't sleep because he's staring at me! Lance sat down on the bed and I felt the other side of the mattress sink. He said, "I can sleep here."

I pulled the covers up under my neck and looked at him warily, Lance lay down next to me and said "I told you I wouldn't touch you." Then he closed his eyes.

I just watched him for a while, and Lance seemed to really fall asleep. His chest rose and fell regularly, and his breathing was very steady. I turned my back to Lance and buried my face into the pillow, which smelled faintly of cypress wood. In the warmth of the blanket and the aroma of the wood, I slowly drifted into sleep.

The early morning sun shone on my face and I opened my eyes to see Lance's magnified face in front of me. The sunlight gave a golden edge to the contours of his handsome face. It was so close that I almost screamed out loud. But I found Lance in the same position as he had fallen asleep last night, he hadn't moved much. I was the one who rolled from one side of the bed to the other.

My leg was resting on Lance's abs and my chin was next to his shoulder. This realization immediately woke me up, I usually didn't move around like this in my sleep. Maybe I had a nightmare last night because of the unfamiliar surroundings or because I was frightened. I silently took my legs off of Lance's body. Then I lifted my chin up off his shoulder, and just then Lance's eyes suddenly opened.

I looked into his eyes and froze a little, Lance's breath hitting my face. Lance's eyes swept over my eyes, the bridge of my nose, and stopped at my lips. His head moved a little in my direction, but I couldn't help myself from avoiding it.

"Ding-" My phone gave a short and sharp chirp.

It took me a moment to find my consciousness. I flashed backwards past Lance and picked up the phone by the bed. The phone screen flickered for a moment and then turned completely black. I turned my head to look at Lance, who looked as if the ambiguous atmosphere had never existed.

I waved the phone screen at him, "The battery has run down."

"There's a charger in the cabinet, get it yourself." Lance said and walked into the washroom.

What was I doing just now? My heart was beating very fast. I didn't know why, but I always felt at ease when I was around Lance., and always unconsciously wanted to be close to him, which was not good. I rubbed my face. Just because he took me in for the night didn't mean he wasn't dangerous, and I still didn't want to have anything to do with him.

I found a row of chargers in the cabinet, a variety so vast that I wondered if Lance was a tech geek. I had just charged my phone when there was a sharp knock at the door.

The knock on the door startled me, because Lance had said not to let anyone find me. I subconsciously pulled myself under the covers. Then I heard the sound of someone unlocking the door and Lance coming out of the washroom.
