Estelle's POV
I wrapped myself in the covers, like an ostrich. The man at the door entered the bedroom and Lance's footsteps moved to the bed.
"I didn't let you in!" Lance's voice was cold and tinged with anger.
"It's urgent.... Do you have a guest? How rare." Another man's voice was quite familiar, which I'd heard somewhere before.
Lance's voice turned helpless, "What's the use of hiding under the covers?" I thought he was talking to me.
Being found out... I slowly lifted the covers off and then saw Ethan standing opposite to Lance with a surprised look on his face.
"You?" My voice overlapped with Ethan's.
Lance pressed the corner of his forehead, "Keep your voices down, I don't want everyone to hear you."
"Should I go out now?" Ethan looked at Lance and then at me on the bed. I realized how bad we looked now. Lance's bathrobe showed a large area of skin, and I smelled like Lance even though I was wearing clothes.
"It's not what you think, we don't have anything!" I hastily explained.
Ethan's surprise turned into a smile and he bumped Lance's arm, "You still can't let her go, right?"
"She broke in on her own."
Ethan looked at me with surprise "How did you get to our territory alone?"
"By motorcycle." Well, I said it anyway. Whenever I was nervous, the words always came out without thinking.
"Haha." Ethan laughed "You're much more lively than the last time I saw you." Ethan was very different from the one I saw at the exchange, I didn't know if it was because Lance was around, but the sinister feeling in him was gone.
Lance said to me, "I guess you don't want to go back now."
I opened my mouth or didn't say anything. Of course I wanted to go home, but I didn't know how I was going to face everything of our wolf pack. If something happened to Brandon, the Alpha would absolutely kill me. Or maybe Brandon was cured, which I thought was more likely. He would be so mad with revenge on me that the best I could do was to be kicked out of the pack.
"If you ever want to go back, feel free to talk to me." Lance gestured for Ethan to follow him. "We'll talk about our business in the checkroom."
After a while Lance appeared at the door of the room wearing a fine ready-to-wear from Prada, he looked like a print model from a magazine. He looked anxious and wondered if it's because of the news Ethan brought.
"I'll be right back. If you need to call the number on the table, they'll send it up."
I nodded and waited until Lance's footsteps were far away. I lay back down on my bed as if I were disconnected, which was all way out of my control. I shouldn't have gone to Brandon's shitty birthday party last night. The paper cutter was stuck in the right side of Brandon's chest, and he should have passed out from the pain. And then I broke into Lance's territory, the Legion of taboo people. I even slept in the same bed with him. My brain was about to explode, why did these bad things always happen to me?
I lay on my bed and restarted my phone, and it vibrated like crazy just as I turned it on. The dozen missed calls on top of my phone startled me. The calls were all from my father, who must have known something, or worse, Brandon had approached him.
I hurriedly dialed back and the phone was answered without a few rings.
"Where are you?" My father's eager voice came from the other side of the phone.
"Is something wrong?"
"And you're playing dumb? Alpha's been looking for you everywhere again. What the hell did you do to Brandon?"
"Is he okay?"
"The doctor said he passed out from a drug overdose. But he woke up and only said your name."
I didn't know if it was lucky or unlucky that the paper cutter couldn't kill a werewolf as strong as Brandon. The real reason he fell to the ground was clear to himself, but he did remember the fact that I had stabbed him.
"He's sucking drugs and got high and I have nothing to do with it. But I'll be right back, don't worry."
"As soon as you can." My father hung up the phone.
I waited anxiously in my room, not knowing how long Lance meant by "be right back". But it was really time for me to go home, and my hand was on the doorknob of my bedroom. Lance's warning was ringing in my ears again, would he tie me up? I thought he's the kind of guy who could do something like that.
Lance came back with a paper box scented with food in his hand.
"What are you doing standing in the doorway?"
"I want to go home!"
"So sudden. Is the person you hurt okay?" Lance froze for a moment, and there was some hesitation in his tone.
"Yes."
"Let's eat something first." Lance lifted the box in front of me, and I hadn't eaten in a long time. My stomach rumbled because of this.
I took the box with some embarrassment, and the food inside was still hot. "I'm in a real hurry, can you let me go back?" I put on a pleading tone.
"Okay, I'll have Ethan drive you back." Lance compromised anyway.
"No, I can do it myself."
"If Ethan doesn't send you, you won't get away from our wolf pack." He was right, I could have been killed by the guards as a suspicious person.
Lance made a phone call. I silently ate the dessert in the box as the cream melted in my mouth. Bliss spread from my stomach to my entire body. It wasn't long before Lance motioned for me to follow him through the living room to the back door, where Ethan's Hummer was parked.
"Keep talking, I'm listening." Ethan held the steering wheel with one hand and brushed the chestnut hair on his head back with the other.
I was actually still a little scared of Lance, it's an instinct from the creature. He had always exuded an air of danger. Yet he was gentle in a way. "I don't know." The eyes of the deep sea appeared in my mind "He is far away from me, I can't see clearly."
"You're pretty perceptive." I thought Ethan would blame me for not speaking clearly, but he looked pleased. "I think you should come to our wolf pack."
"How can that be?" I knew the Legion hated us as much as we hated them.
"Why not? As long as the Alpha agrees."
"Forget it." I just wanted to live in peace with my family.
Ethan put me on the edge of our pack, and if our pack found out that Legion was in the territory, they would go crazy.
"By the way, your motorcycle, Alpha had the repair shop directly deliver it to your house." Ethan said to me before he left.
"Okay." Actually, the motorcycle was Brandon's. Wait, my stagnant head suddenly ran. Why would he have my home address? But Ethan's car had already driven away.
I just got home and got slapped by my father.
"What are you doing?!" I looked at him incredulously.
"Did you know that Alpha came to see you at home today? And you stayed out all night!" He raised his hand and tried to hit me, but Nathan stopped him.
"Can't you talk properly? It was Brandon who deserved it in the first place." Nathan said to his father.
"You think you're something? You're all the same, all of you stoner kids." My father picked up the bottle of wine on the table, and he was about to "educate" us again.
"Do you think I'm afraid of you?" Nathan and he tore into each other.
The sound of furniture crashing was in my ears, when Nathan and I were young. My father always beat us after drinking, and Nathan and I would be dragged out and beaten by my father even when we were hiding under the bed. Nathan began to consciously rebel against Marvin after puberty, and although he was no longer young, he was still very strong. Because Marvin used to be the beta of our wolf pack, after the death of our mother, he was demoted to a normal person because of his drunk and disorderly behavior. And it was all the result of the Alpha's merciful treatment because of his merits.
Everytime they fought, what was injured had always been the furniture and me. I didn't have a wolf, and I was always mistakenly injured by them when I advised them to stop fighting. My phone started ringing untimely and the caller's number looked familiar to me. Was it Brandon's number?
"That's enough!" I shouted at the two men who were wrestling together. "Brandon called me!"
Nathan and my father both stopped moving before I picked up the phone.
"It's me."
A weak voice came from the other side, "I have the knife, come and get it yourself."
