Alpha's Cursed Mate novel Chapter 21

Lance's POV

My MATE link had never reacted so strongly, like a jolt of electricity and a piercing alarm. As I rushed to Estelle's side, I found myself actually starting to panic, I hadn't had such an intense emotional reaction in years, and it gave me a sense of fear that I couldn't control. Then there was remorse; I should never have said yes to her. Even if I locked her up I couldn't put her in danger.

When I rushed to my mate's side, she was in a death grip by her twin brother. The alpha aura from my body pressed uncontrollably on Nathan's head and he became cowering at once.

"Let her go!"

Nathan was still going berserk from his withdrawal reaction, and if I applied any more pressure, he would die from bursting blood vessels. Looking at the face that resembled Estelle's, my sanity made me retract my aura.

I moved closer to Nathan and he slowly slumped to the floor because of my proximity, a submissive instinct. He made a whimpering sound from his mouth out of fear and I grabbed Nathan by the neck and slammed him against the wall. He passed out from the impact. I was so in control that if I had pushed harder, his spine would have been broken by my fall.

"Kill him!" My wolf roared in my head as he tried to jump out and bite Nathan's neck off.

"Get back!" I had to divide my spirit to suppress my wolf while I confirmed Estelle's condition.

But when I picked Estelle up from the floor, to my surprise, the color of the wound on Estelle's neck was slowly lightening. I gently touched her spirit with my connection and a new sensation arose in her spirit. I felt her wolf and she suddenly opened her eyes and looked at me, a golden light glowing from her translucent blue irises.

I knew it wasn't Estelle in front of me anymore. She looked at me curiously, her mate. Balder struggled to come out inside my head, sensing Estelle's wolf calling him. But I couldn't let him out, he might hurt Estelle, or her wolf.

"What's your name?" I tried to talk to her, but she just came closer to me, sniffing the air around me.

I could also smell the change in her body at the same time, the original light orange blossom fragrance interspersed with the smell of white wood. Just like Estelle herself the fresh and warm smell wrapped around me and calmed my anxious and angry mood.

I ran my hands through Estelle's long brown hair, her ceramic-like skin glowing in the sunlight. I kissed her full, soft lips as if seduced, and there was a subtle sweetness coming from her lips and teeth.

Our tongues tangled in each other's mouths as I clung to Estelle's soft body. She responded positively, wrapping her arms around my neck and her long, slender legs around my waist. My hands stroked down her back to her hips.

Her messy gasps rang in my ears as our lips parted. I kissed the patch of skin on the back of her neck, my alpha physical instincts telling me to bite down and mark her now. But as I licked the piece of skin, Estelle shuddered and she pushed me away.

"What are you doing?!"

Her lake like blue eyes were filled with panic and confusion.

Estelle's POV

I awoke from the darkness wrapped in warmth and comfort, tingling sensations coming from the back of my neck. I opened my eyes only to find I was in Lance's arms, with one arm around me and the other holding the side of my face. The sound of sticky water came to my ears as Lance licked the skin on the back of my neck.

Jesus! Is he going to tag me? In a panic I pushed Lance away with all my might. He looked at me in surprise and I noticed that my legs were wrapped tightly around his waist. It was so humiliating that I tried to get off of him, but a voice stopped me.

"Don't!" The voice sounded harsh, a voice that should belong to a tall and pretty girl.

"Who are you?"

"You really don't know anything, do you? I'm your wolf, Artemis."

"What?!" My wolf? I can't put "my" and "wolf" together yet.

"Did you know that you can talk to a wolf without having to say it?" Lance's voice sounded like he was stifling a laugh, but there was no hint of a break in his expression.

I was in turmoil, I had just been nearly killed by my frenzied brother and now I had my own wolf. Especially since I was sitting face to face on Lance's lap with his arms around my waist. We were almost pressed together.

It was too much, my ears burning red from this overly intimate action. I gently pushed my hands away from his firm pecs as Artemis screamed in my head not to let go of me. I still insisted on getting up off Lance and keeping a safe distance from him.

"Where are my father and Nathan?" I hastily asked Lance.

"They just passed out."

I covered my forehead, are other people's wolves so unreasonable? "I just awakened today!"

"You really need to work on this."

Nathan is still in the hospital for observation and my father told me to go home and rest. I was skeptical that he would take care of people. But he insisted that I go home. I told my father about my awakening and he was happy, but he wasn't surprised; he had been convinced I would have my own wolf. I wonder if this was out of his confidence in his own bloodline.

And it was only after I inherited the Beta bloodline that I slowly noticed changes in myself. My perception and reactions are much sharper than before, and I can smell the baking bread in the kitchen while I'm lying in bed. When I look out the window, I can see the bugs in the tree in the backyard. And I can always feel a powerful mental body connected to the other side of my spirit, is this the MATE link? If I call him, will he hear me?

"Of course I will!"

"!" I was taken aback, I still hadn't gotten used to Artemis' presence.

"Can you feel Lance, too?" I asked Artemis.

"Yes, and I can feel his wolf, the wolf he's been trying to hide."

"I was almost forcibly tagged by his wolf!"

"So what, you're his MATE."

"I don't like that." I don't want someone who doesn't love me at all to mark me.

"Boring, one day you will accept your fate." Artemis disappeared with these words.

Artemis was an unreasonable and conceited wolf, and I should have locked her up like Lance did. Then Artemis' sneer rang out in my head.

I touched my face and I was surprised that I kept smiling. A sense of belated joy hit me. My wish had finally come true, and the moon goddess had heard my prayer. I was no longer an alien and a monster to the wolves! I lay in bed and rolled over, wondering how Mia would look tomorrow when I told her about it.
