Estelle's POV
I was still in school when I received the message. My phone vibrated frantically in my pocket, and I waited until the math teacher at the podium had his back to us as he wrote the problem on the board, and I opened it under my desk. Several missed calls from my dad, and the message from Alpha Lance read that Nathan was in the hospital for substance abuse. As I ran out of the classroom, the math teacher yelled my name from behind me.
Nathan had survived the emergency moments by the time I entered the hospital and he was taken to the ward. I saw the Alpha outside the ward, his face was almost cruelly cold, but he was not angry with me. I was allowed to enter the ward to see Nathan.
My father was sitting by Nathan's bedside, and he was holding Nathan's hand. When he saw me, I could see the intense exhaustion on his face.
"What did the doctor say?" I asked my father in a whisper.
"Fortunately, he didn't inhale much, and his body will recover soon."
"That's good." I sat on the other side of the hospital bed. "By the way, what's the Alpha doing here?"
"I'm not sure, he told me to come to the hospital."
I remembered again the look on Lance's face just now, his distaste for anyone who gets involved with drugs. To monitor Nathan, I waited for him to leave after school for the past few days, but he always had a way of running away when I wasn't with him. I don't know how he found Nathan and brought him back, but Nathan is really going down this time.
Alpha had been waiting outside Nathan's hospital room for me and my father, and I stepped out and gently closed the door behind me.
"I'm sorry." I looked down and didn't look Lance in the eye. "I didn't control my brother."
"You shouldn't be the one apologizing, he should be held accountable for his actions."
"Can you tell me what's going on?" I asked Lance.
"I received a tip-off about drug dealers. When my men arrived at that hotel, only your brother was lying in bed."
"A drug dealer? I don't believe Nathan would go into drug dealing." Nathan, even if he was a jerk, he wouldn't drag other kids into this kind of mud. I know he's always hated the state of his life, and he's always used drugs to escape reality. He envied the kids who had "normal" families.
I looked at Lance with a sincere look, "I know that sounds like sophistry to me, and Nathan does have a history of substance abuse. But he wouldn't be selling drugs, he's being set up."
"I get it, I'll look into it. But I need him to come with me when he wakes up, and I need to know where he got his medicine."
"Can I come along?"
"Okay, but you can only watch from the outside."
"I promise."
Alpha blocked the news about Nathan and I spent the last two days at school and at the hospital. nathan is doing well and he healed quickly. My father almost fought with him at the hospital and I stopped them. Told them about the report.
"That bitch!" Nathan cursed darkly.
"Is that the girl you're siding with? You better not be lying to the Alpha." I warned Nathan.
Nathan was taken to his office by Lance, and I waited anxiously outside. nathan came out of his office with no expression on his face, and I was just about to ask him when he said to me.
"Alpha called you in." With those words he walked away without looking back.
Lance was still writing something on a piece of paper when I entered the office. He glanced up at me, "You're right, Nathan is not a drug dealer."
"If there is danger, I will be the first to inform you. My father will be around to help him, too." I bit my lower lip and looked up at Lance. he frowned as he pondered between the two options, knowing how stubborn I was. If he didn't agree, there was a good chance I'd sneak into the withdrawal room. So in the end, he relented.
"I know, I'll have the doctor prepare everything as soon as possible. Be sure to let me know if there are any problems."
It was a normal, made safe room. There were no hard objects in it, supposedly so that the withdrawing person couldn't hurt himself. Nathan's pale face was calm, and I wondered if it was the effect of the sedative the doctor had given him. My father and I talked to him and told him not to be too nervous.
Nathan slowly began to sweat as my father and I tied his hands and feet behind his back and we strangled the bite into Nathan's mouth to prevent him from biting off his tongue. He was writhing on the bed, which must have been very painful. But all we could do was watch him from his side.
It was all for the sake of his health, and I couldn't bear to see Nathan's face contorted by the pain. Then my father and I both heard the sound of misaligned bones.
"Shit! He's turning!" The father pounced on him and tried to tie up the transformed Nathan with a rope, but Nathan's fur had covered his whole body and he dodged his father with the speed of a fierce beast.
Nathan howled as he lunged at his father, who had gone berserk. The father was knocked to the ground by the flying beast, and Nathan's sharp canine teeth were right on his neck. Father braced his hand against the big wolf's upper and lower jaws, and the canine teeth pierced into his palm. Tasting blood, the big wolf became more agitated, and the father had no way to deal with the berserking beast.
The big wolf dragged my father from the floor to the door and the back of his head hit the wall and he passed out. I tried to run over to see how my father was doing, but he looked over at me.
Nathan yelled out loud when a sudden sharp pain hit my head. Like the dull pain of a hammer blow, I felt my brain being ripped apart. It was as if his pain had been transferred to me. My blood felt like a million bugs were crawling through the veins in my arm that I was clasping to see what was inside.
"Make it stop!" I hissed at Nathan as he shifted back into his human form. I guess he didn't think I was much of a threat, so he wasn't going to use his beast form on me.
I wanted to run away, or ask Lance for help. But the pain in my head tore my soul in two, and I lost the strength to fall to my knees.
His hands were around my neck, but my consciousness felt like it was melting away. nathan's crazy face was right in front of my eyes, but I couldn't feel the pain he was causing me, and I couldn't feel my own existence. Then I fell into darkness.
