Harold cautioned, "You never know. They have decades of history. Ethan used to love her to the point of obsession. Even before your divorce, he treated her exceptionally well—that's what broke your heart in the first place."
"Falling in love is easy, but letting go of someone you truly loved is incredibly hard. I'm not trying to put Ethan down, Isabella. We've both known him for a long time. You know exactly what kind of man he is."
Isabella had known Ethan since she followed her mother into the Lane family.
But for twenty years, their paths rarely crossed. Ethan only had eyes for Natalie and barely noticed her.
Harold, having once been Ethan's close friend, understood the depths of that devotion perfectly.
"Who cares? That's his business, not mine," Isabella said dismissively.
"Let's drop it, Harold. We're on vacation. We should be in a good mood. Honestly, it's been a long time since I went anywhere just for fun."
"Before, I had time but no money. Making a few thousand a month meant there was nothing left after rent and groceries. I couldn't afford to travel. Now that I have money, I have no time. I'm always chasing the next deal."
"Human nature is insatiable. Once you get what you want, you just want more. It's a bottomless pit."
Harold chuckled. "From now on, you're taking weekends off. I'll take you on road trips around Cabinda. Once we explore the city, we can check out the neighboring areas, then the rest of the state, and eventually travel cross-country."
"We have a massive country. As long as we carve out the time, it'll be amazing."
Isabella sighed softly. "I'd love to take weekends off, but sitting in my position means carrying the weight of all my employees' livelihoods. I have to secure enough contracts to keep them working."
"Jesse and I never liked them, so we slowly stopped inviting Ethan. Ethan would actually get jealous of how tight Jesse and I were, but it was his own fault for always bringing those two."
"He grew up with them, but we didn't. Our personalities clashed, and I wasn't going to force myself to endure them just for Ethan's sake."
Even if Isabella hadn't entered the picture, Harold and Ethan's friendship would have naturally fizzled out into strangers.
Isabella stayed quiet for a moment. "You're right. I need to learn to let go and trust my management team. At the very least, I need my weekends back so we can actually date properly."
They had been official for a while now, but their actual dates could be counted on one hand. She felt terribly guilty about it.
