A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 295

Seeing Darleen at the office again did nothing to improve Fairfax's mood. With the international ventures in Barcester, Zephyria, and Bergen City all in turmoil, his nerves were frayed. He didn't want to see a single member of the Yelchin family.

Darleen followed him into his office and slid a document across his desk.

“Sign it.”

Fairfax pulled out a cigarette, his eyes glancing at the papers. When he saw the words ‘Divorce Agreement,’ his brow furrowed. “What now?”

“She said there was some kind of accident on the way to file the papers,” Darleen explained impatiently. “You need to sign a new one.”

Fairfax paused. So, he and Starla weren't actually divorced? A sliver of relief eased the tightness that had been constricting his chest all morning.

“Just sign it,” Darleen urged. “Keeping a woman like that in the Yelchin family is only asking for more trouble.”

Every day that passed without the divorce being finalized left her on edge. For some reason, when Starla had called earlier, her tone had been unsettlingly strange. Even over the phone, Darleen had felt the venom in her gaze, as if Starla's hands could reach through the line and crush her. That sense of danger still lingered.

“Hurry up and sign!” Darleen pressed again, haunted by that feeling.

Fairfax gave her a cool look. “What kind of accident?”

“What?”

“What happened when she went to file for the divorce?”

“How should I know?” Darleen snapped. “Stop asking so many questions and just sign it!”
