A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 294

Darleen answered quickly, her voice dripping with condescension. “Is the divorce finalized?”

Hearing that voice now, even through the phone, Starla felt a murderous rage surge through her, a primal urge to snap the old woman’s neck.

Before she could speak, Darleen continued, “If it’s done, you’d better be content with your one billion. You can forget about the five billion. If you can’t accept it, feel free to sue us.”

Darleen was irritated that Starla was even able to call her. The police were so inefficient. The evidence was irrefutable—the child was kidnapped and killed by her. Why hadn't they arrested her yet? She wanted Starla locked up immediately.

“There was an issue on the way to file the papers,” Starla said, her voice devoid of emotion. “I’m having another divorce agreement sent over. Have Fairfax sign it.”

“What?” Darleen practically shrieked.

An issue? After she had finally managed to get Fairfax to sign the papers yesterday? It had been difficult enough the first time; she didn't know if the stubborn boy would sign again.

“What kind of issue?” Darleen spat. “I think you just don’t want to get divorced, do you?”

She was livid. An issue could have arisen with anything else, but not with this. Starla should have been out of the Yelchin family long ago.

“The divorce agreement will be delivered to the Yelchin estate within the hour,” Starla stated flatly.

“Starla, you—!”
