A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1346

Tanya was practically vibrating with rage. That lunatic had actually driven off with Starla!

...

Inside the speeding car, Starla sat in absolute silence. Fairfax lit a cigarette, took a drag, and looked at her with dead eyes.

"Tell me, how do you want to die?" he asked, his voice dripping with ice. "For the sake of the marriage we used to share, I'll let you pick your poison."

His tone was bordering on psychotic. Starla said nothing.

"You deserve to die! You should have been dead a long time ago. God, I regret everything..."

Regret what? Just like last time, his expressions of regret were entirely genuine. The terrifying truth was that he was completely serious whenever he claimed to regret her, just as he was serious whenever he obsessively clung to her. No one could survive being the target of that kind of volatile obsession.

"I have regrets too," Starla finally murmured.

"You? What right do you have to regret anything? You don't have a shred of remorse for what happened to my family. You destroyed us, and you don't even care."

Fairfax couldn't fathom how she felt zero guilt, even after learning her vengeance against his family had been based on a lie regarding her mother's death. And now, she hadn't just neglected Susanna—she had taken her life.

"I could maybe forgive the rest, but what did Susanna ever do to you? Why did you have to do that to her? Tell me, why?"

"Yes, Fairfax. Why?" Starla turned to look at him. She threw his question right back at him.

If he had spent so much time stewing over why she would kill Susanna, had it never occurred to him that she didn't do it? He couldn't make sense of the motive, yet he blindly convicted her anyway. It was absolutely pathetic.
