A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1329

News of Starla's aggressive manhunt for Fairfax reached Herbert shortly after. Coupled with the sudden disappearance of Susanna, the pieces were moving quickly, though he couldn't see the whole board yet.

Rudolf investigated and returned with chilling news: Starla had put a kill order on Fairfax. Dead or alive, but preferably dead.

"Are you sure?" Herbert's voice betrayed his shock.

"Positive. And it's highly likely Starla had Susanna abducted as well. She has completely drawn a line in the sand against Yardley."

So Yardley's stubborn protection of Fairfax had backfired spectacularly. The Yelchins really were a curse.

Herbert's phone buzzed. It was Yardley.

"Find out where Starla took her," Yardley demanded without preamble.

"Me? I'm less than nothing to her right now, and you know it." Anyone foolish enough to bring up a Yelchin to Starla was asking for a bullet. With a kill order on Fairfax, her hatred was absolute. Herbert wasn't about to stick his neck out.

"If you get her location out of Starla, I'll sign over the three Iseldor mines to you."

Herbert gripped his phone. "Susanna must really mean something to you."
