A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1327

Inside the annex, Starla downed half a glass of water, her chest tight.

Romy stood nearby, hesitant. "Are you really going to have Fairfax killed?"

"One of us has to die. It'll never end otherwise," Starla said, slamming the glass onto the table.

Romy shuddered. Starla had said something similar in Smaro Town, but back then, she had meant she wanted to die to make things right. Now, every shred of her empathy had been incinerated. The Yelchins, Brinley, Yardley, Susanna—they had all pushed her until hatred was the only thing keeping her standing.

Her phone vibrated. Yardley.

She hung up. He called again. She ignored it. He stopped after the third try, likely having reached the main house.

A knock at the door. Luce entered. "Miss. I've put the word out to hunt him down. Dead or alive. Are you absolutely certain?"

"Certain."

Luce nodded. "Understood."

Right after he left, David called.

"Miss."

"What is it?"

"Mr. Hoggart is brutally punishing the young master again."

Elmer knew. He knew about Yardley confronting Starla over Fairfax, and he knew just how deeply Susanna was influencing his son's mind.
