"Stay out of my sight," Elmer snarled, his voice a low, dangerous rumble.
Yardley clenched his jaw.
"Starla doesn't want to see you!" Elmer added, the command absolute and unyielding.
The words felt like a punch to the gut. She told him everything?
Yardley had never viewed his actions as a problem, but now the severity of his miscalculations was glaringly obvious. He had completely shattered the girl's trust, and now she was fighting back.
Yardley took a deep breath. "You took Susanna."
He had rushed here to check on Starla, but the immediate crisis was Susanna's life. He knew his father's methods.
"You can't touch her," Yardley insisted, meeting Elmer's lethal glare.
Elmer's eyes darkened to pitch black. "I can't... touch her?" He scoffed dismissively.
"Father, she—"
"She what?" Elmer interrupted coldly. "Are you going to tell me what happened with the Yelchin family was all the Clark family's doing?"
Yardley had been trying to justify the collateral damage, wanting to express a convoluted sense of guilt for destroying her family.
