A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1267

On her way back to the Hoggart Castle, Susanna's vehicle was intercepted, and she was forcibly taken.

Yardley received the news while working at the Hoggart Group headquarters.

His expression tightened as he listened to Garret's report. "Who took her?"

To snatch someone from under Garret's watch meant the opposing force was highly skilled. Garret's tone was dangerously flat.

"It was your father's men, sir."

Yardley froze.

"Ms. Yelchin confronted Miss Starla outside the hospital today," Garret explained. "Mr. Hoggart must have been furious."

"That fast?" Yardley muttered.

He knew David had just brought Starla back; he hadn't expected his father to strike back with such immediate, ruthless precision.

"Yes, sir. The tension between them was highly volatile," Garret added.

The implication was clear: Starla had been upset, Elmer had found out, and Susanna was now paying the price.

A vein throbbed at Yardley's temple. He knew exactly how lethal his father was—Elmer's cruelty and decisiveness vastly outmatched his own. If Elmer had ordered her taken, she was as good as dead.

Yardley abruptly stood up, grabbing his coat. "Find out where they took her. Now!"

Tracking his father's black-ops team wouldn't be easy, but he couldn't just leave her to die.

Damn it! How did she even know Starla was returning today? Was she insane? Did she have any idea the absolute warpath his father had been on since Starla disappeared? Confronting her today was basically begging for a death sentence.

...

Yardley practically broke the speed limit getting to the hospital.
