Getting along was one thing, but sharing a room every night?
Amos had been filing constant complaints with Fairfax.
But what could Fairfax do? He knew Starla was using Yvonne as a human shield to avoid him. It wasn't like he could just kick the door down and drag her out of Yvonne's bed.
Now, Amos was glaring at Starla with barely concealed resentment...
"You didn't get her?" Starla asked.
"Romy and Seymour were severely injured..." Fairfax said grimly.
Hearing that the two of them were badly hurt made her stomach drop.
During her month in Sylvan Vale, Romy and Seymour had been by her side every single day. Knowing they were heavily injured left a bitter taste in her mouth.
Lately, her fallout with Yardley and Herbert had escalated to terrifying heights.
She had shown zero mercy to Herbert's people!
And clearly, Herbert and Yardley were showing zero mercy to hers...
She knew they had completely severed ties, but hearing that the people who had protected her were now suffering still hurt.
"Starla, things are really tricky right now. Yardley's demanding that you..."
"Amos!"
Fairfax's icy bark cut Amos off before he could finish.
But even though the sentence was left hanging, Starla understood perfectly.
She looked at Amos. "He wants to trade me for her, doesn't he?"
Amos instinctively wanted to nod, but Fairfax was glaring at him with such lethal intent that he froze.
His heavy, oppressive silence was all the confirmation she needed.
"Hah!"
Starla let out a cold laugh. "I really don't understand him at all."
Yardley had thrown a massive, extravagant wedding for Susanna, and now he was suddenly offering to trade her to Fairfax in exchange for Starla?
The logic was entirely baffling.
