Melody spoke briefly with Felicia before leading the children away with Jeremy.
The medical community was interconnected, especially when it came to someone like Jeremy.
Arranging for the children's checkups was just a matter of a phone call—after all, as someone from the Chesson family, he received preferential treatment wherever he went.
It was just that he rarely used his status for anything.
Melody was grateful. After calling Lydia to inform her about the checkups, she turned to him, saying, "Thank you for helping out. I'll make sure to pay you back for the costs."
He was replying to a message. At her words, he lifted his gaze. His deep eyes were devoid of any extra emotion, calm and indifferent.
"You can't afford it."
That one sentence left her speechless.
She had heard everything when he made the arrangements.
He had included every possible test in the checkups. If they were charged at standard hospital rates, the cost for each child wouldn't be less than 1,000.
"I still have to pay you back," Melody murmured. "Madam Callahan wouldn't accept this otherwise."
Jeremy didn't refuse her, only mentioning, "Do as you like."
She finally looked up and studied him carefully, but he looked the same as always—just a simple dress shirt and slacks.
Yet, because of his striking features, he could make such plain clothing look like high-end designer wear.
The children's checkups were taking a while. She leaned against the wall, staring at the tips of her shoes. Her voice was so soft it was almost inaudible. "You met up with Krystal's father today, didn't you?"
With a neutral hum, he responded, "He's upstairs."
"Oh." Melody nodded, unsure what else to say.
It wasn't her place to discuss the matter, so she could only quietly let go of her frustration when he refused to visit the orphanage that day.
Lydia and Jason arrived with the rest of the children around 4:00 pm.
She mentioned that they had just finished seeing off the charity program crew.
When Lydia spotted Jeremy, she immediately approached him, her eyes filled with warmth. "You must be Melody's boyfriend, right?"
At the engagement banquet, Andrew had invited her, but her seat had been placed at the far end, so she had never actually seen what Jeremy looked like.
Her eyes shone with genuine joy as she looked at him.
Meanwhile, Melody froze at the question, suddenly flustered.
Jeremy had never publicly acknowledged their relationship before.
For some reason, that thought made her nervous. Instinctively, she wanted to change the subject, but before she could say a word, she heard Jeremy's low voice—warm yet firm.
"Yes. I'm her boyfriend."
