Biting her lip, Melody was unwilling to argue with Jeremy over something so pointless.
She didn't know why he had suddenly changed his mind, especially when he had been against it when she first brought it up.
As she hated troubling others, she avoided Jeremy's gaze while gripping the payment slip in her hand. "I need to pay this, so I'll make a move first."
Without waiting for a response, she walked past him and headed toward the payment counter.
Jeremy's brows furrowed slightly as he followed behind her.
She was aware of his presence but didn't acknowledge him. She simply went ahead, paid the fees, and returned to the emergency department.
All of the children had varying degrees of food poisoning and needed either induced vomiting or medication, but Orphy had it worst. The poor girl had to have her stomach pumped.
While waiting outside the procedure room, Felicia turned to Melody. "How did this even happen?"
Melody shook her head as she had no idea.
Her eyes were filled with worry. She had already informed Lydia, but because the orphanage was still in the middle of filming with the charity program, she couldn't leave.
"Miss, is Orphy going to die?" A timid voice broke the silence.
Melody looked down to see a little boy staring up at her.
His clothes were old and didn't fit him well, but they were clean. He was small and thin, and his head looked slightly too big for his body due to malnutrition.
She gently patted his head and replied softly, "No, she won't. Just like you, she has a stomachache from eating something bad. Once the doctor takes care of her, she'll be fine."
The little boy hesitated. "Is the doctor really that amazing?"
Her gaze softened as she answered solemnly, "Yes, he is."
Jeremy stood nearby, watching her as she crouched down, speaking gently with the child.
Even though she was anxious, she remained calm and soothing, giving off a quiet sense of reassurance.
Since Melody would be helping out at the orphanage today, she had tied her hair into a ponytail and dressed in simple sportswear, looking like a student.
Jeremy lowered his gaze and addressed the children beside her. "Come with me."
His voice was deep and pleasant, but his demeanor was cold.
As a result, the children hesitated, fear evident on their faces. Instead of moving, they huddled closer to Melody.
She quickly reassured them, "He's also a doctor. Let him take you for a checkup, so your tummies won't hurt anymore. Okay?"
Jeremy paused, and his gaze darkened slightly.
They were close to her, but didn't dare to go close to him.
Kids who grew up in orphanages were naturally guarded and didn't trust outsiders easily.
"Melody, why don't you take them?" Felicia suggested. "I'll stay here and wait for Orphy."
In actual fact, there was no better option than this.
