Melody's voice was laced with bitterness and choked with emotion. Just listening to it made it feel like she had been wronged beyond words.

"You knew that Dennis was the mastermind, yet you refused to tell me about it. That's because you were worried that Krystal's reputation would be affected if I exposed the truth!"

Jeremy used to emphasize to her that Krystal's reputation was very important because she was a doctor.

But what about Melody herself? Did she deserve to be treated like trash just because she was a nurse and an adoptive daughter?

Tears streamed down her cheeks. Her eyes were red as she shot him a stubborn look. "Have you thought about me? Have you thought about my feelings when something this terrible has happened to me?

"Jeremy, what exactly am I to you? You have never ever cared about me." Melody's words grew harsher by the second.

Tears blurred her vision so much that she couldn't tell what expression was on his face. Raising her hand, she casually wiped her tears away.

She acted like an obstinate fool, confronting him and keeping up a rivalry with him.

Jeremy's expression darkened. Raising his hand, he tried to pacify her, but she immediately ducked out of the way.

Melody was like a cat with its hackles raised, completely on guard, and didn't want him anywhere near her.

Jeremy towered over her as he looked at her and spoke slowly. However, his words lacked the warmth that was present moments ago.

"I didn't want to tell you about it because I was worried you might let your imagination run wild, like what is happening right now. However, I can tell you with absolute certainty that Krystal had nothing to do with this case."

He had withdrawn his hand and stopped trying to pacify her.

It sounded like a cruel joke to Melody. Then, she asked, "What do you mean by Krystal having nothing to do with it? It's her adoptive father, for crying out loud!"

She couldn't keep her emotions in check anymore. She was so worked up that her voice sounded a little shrill.

Melody's entire body was trembling uncontrollably as the revolting insults from the internet and the nastily photoshopped pictures flashed in her mind once more.

She had endured the full brunt of the viciousness behind these heartless retaliations from the netizens, yet Jeremy was claiming that Krystal had nothing to do with it.

How was Krystal not supposed to be a part of this?

He saw the disappointment and pain in her eyes. After a brief silence, he caved and handed her a piece of tissue. Suppressing the irritated feeling in his heart, he pacified her slowly.

"Crying won't solve anything. You have the right to suspect Krystal, but I have the evidence that she wasn't behind it. So, you can't falsely accuse her because of your wild guess."

He paused a little and made the greatest concession he could. "I didn't tell you about Dennis being the mastermind sooner, and that's my bad. If you want to meet with him now, I can take you to him."

Melody kept her gaze lowered the whole time. As she stared at her fingers, the overwhelming panic in her heart suddenly turned into complete stillness.

She couldn't understand Jeremy. He stood idly by and did nothing when she was falsely accused. Now, however, he had already found evidence to prove Krystal's innocence, all because he assumed Melody would suspect her.

He acted as if he couldn't tolerate the idea of anyone tarnishing Krystal's image.

Melody stared at her clasped fingers, and her aching heart turned numb without any warning. Lifting her gaze, she looked at him with misty eyes and murmured, "Jeremy, you're a jerk."

Jeremy immediately stiffened and dropped his gaze. Something stirred in his chest, and it suddenly felt like he was falling through an endless void.

Raising his hand, he wiped tears away from Melody's cheeks and said gently, "Don't be upset. Just listen to me, okay?"
