A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 145

Melody had been melancholic these past few days. She didn't ask Jeremy why he had acted that way. Instead, a sense of withdrawal had taken root inside her.

Her shell, like that of a snail, was being pulled back out again.

In the afternoon, she went to the doctor's office to confirm the medical orders and happened to run into Jeremy coming out.

She instinctively stepped back, lowering her head to avoid him. However, unexpectedly, Jeremy didn't walk away.

He stood right in front of her, his eyelids lowered. Though his expression was calm, his dark eyes were filled with complex emotions.

He knew she was still avoiding him. Just as he was about to speak, she lifted her face and paused briefly before turning to leave instead of looking at him.

He was uncomfortable being ignored like this. He called out, "Melody."

Her body stiffened. She tried to keep her voice steady and asked, "Is there something you need, Dr. Chesson?"

Her tone was businesslike.

He furrowed his brow as he didn't like the way she was speaking to him. Then, he deepened his voice. "What's with that attitude?"

Melody bit her lip. She could tell that Jeremy was upset. If this had been before, she would have immediately apologized and tried to soothe him. She had always been obedient.

However, this time, she couldn't do that. In fact, she felt a little afraid to face him. Every time she saw him, it seemed to bring back that feeling of being abandoned.

She stayed silent, and Jeremy's frown deepened. He simply pulled her into a small break room next to the office.

The door was shut behind them, and his gaze was locked onto her. His eyes were heavy with emotion.

Melody, feeling the pressure of his stare, had a racing heart, but it was bitter. Lowering her voice, she broke the silence. "I still have things to do. If you don't need anything, I'll leave."

He chose Krystal over her.

However, Jeremy queried, "What's the difference? Is it because I chose Krystal, and you can't be in the video? So you're still concerned about the promotional video."

She furrowed her brows. "It's not the same."

"What's not the same? The essence is the same, isn't it?" His aura had cooled, and he lowered his eyelids, staring at her with confusion. "This thing isn't suited for you. Why are you so obsessed with something you can't do well?"

She had wanted to explain to Jeremy what it was she actually cared about, but after hearing him say that, she felt it was pointless. He wouldn't understand anyway. She turned to leave, but before she could open the door, he grabbed her hand again and pulled her back to him.

The emotions inside him surged uncontrollably, boiling over, and even his body felt out of control. He had no choice but to hold her tightly, feeling her cool skin, as if this was the only way to calm his turbulent emotions.

Jeremy looked at Melody and said while suppressing his irritation, "You just want to be in the promotional video, right? I can talk to Dr. Turner about it."
