A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 144

Jeremy's words made the entire meeting room fall silent.

Melody stared blankly at him, and he glanced back at her, not missing the confusion and sadness in her eyes.

His eyelashes lowered slightly, and his palms gradually clenched. A strange, uncomfortable feeling seemed to tighten somewhere in his chest, as if someone had pinched him.

However, he still turned and left.

Melody didn't know how she left the meeting room. Her mind was a mess, rendering her unable to think about anything, and all that kept repeating in her head was Jeremy's words—"I chose Krystal. Melody doesn't have the ability."

Tiffany was both angry and heartbroken. "Men aren't worth a damn! They all promise one thing and then go back on their word! And what about Dr. Chesson? What does he even mean? Who is his girlfriend, really?"

Harold and Caleb followed behind, wanting to explain to Melody. After all, they usually had a good relationship, but after hearing what Tiffany said, they didn't dare say anything.

No one had expected that Jeremy would vote for Krystal.

Harold awkwardly piped up, "Melody, I really wanted to vote for you, but I was thinking if everyone voted for you and Krystal didn't get any votes, that would be so awkward. We're all from the same department, right? It's better to keep things harmonious."

Turning to face him, Tiffany glared. "Shut up. You're just trying to ingratiate yourself with her. You all know the investment came from the Regallo Group, right?"

Harold helplessly replied, "It's not like that."

Then, he looked at Melody. "Melody, believe me, I didn't mean it. I just didn't expect everyone to..."

However, before he could finish, he shut up. How could he not have expected it?

Ever since the news spread that Krystal was the biological daughter of the Wardolf family and Melody was only the adopted one, many people in the department started trying to get in Krystal's good graces.

He knew he was in the wrong. With a sigh, he left with Caleb.

Tiffany watched their retreating figures furiously. "They're so fake! They're all trying to flatter Krystal, but they're pretending like they had no choice!"

Melody finally snapped out of it. She took Tiffany's hand and spoke in a hoarse voice, "They can vote for whoever they want. It's their choice, and I'm not upset about that. I just..."

She didn't expect that Jeremy would choose Krystal.

She lowered her eyes with a hollow feeling in her chest. It felt so empty and made her numb.

He lowered his eyes and noticed the paper slip Jeremy had left on the corner of his desk. He raised an eyebrow and was about to take it. "Let me see if you really wrote Krystal's name."

However, Jeremy was quicker. Blocking Harold, he looked at him and said calmly, "Don't touch my things."

Harold, being sharp, raised an eyebrow even higher. He glanced at the paper slip in Jeremy's hand and clicked his tongue. "Why bother?"

The news about the vote spread through the department for two days. What everyone was more interested in was that Jeremy, who was Melody's fiancé, had actually chosen Krystal.

It was as if he had publicly humiliated Melody.

The rumors behind her back were far more unflattering.

Many people even speculated that Jeremy and Melody would probably break up soon. After all, everyone knew that he had always been cold to her.

Tiffany and the nurses at the station, who were close to Melody, didn't dare tell her any of this because they all knew Melody had feelings for Jeremy.
