Melody was guilty for some reason, as if she had done something wrong. She felt flustered momentarily and instinctively tried to explain, "We're going to the Regallo Group later. Denvin said we should have dinner first."
Jeremy merely looked at her with gloomy eyes.
"Ah, this is a coincidence, right? We were just about to ask you to join us for dinner. Since we've run into each other, why don't we all eat together?" Harold kindly stepped in to smooth things over.
He had already asked Jeremy and knew that Denvin was Melody's older brother.
That meant he was Jeremy's brother-in-law. It was normal for a person's brother-in-law not to get along well with their husband, and it was certainly better than being rivals in love.
Yet, his suggestion went unanswered.
Melody felt awkward. She was about to have dinner with Denvin, but now a group of colleagues was suddenly joining them, making it inconvenient to discuss many things.
Jeremy kept looking at her expressionlessly, and his side profile even seemed somewhat cold. No one could tell what he was thinking. After a moment of silence, however, he finally raised his lashes and answered in a calm voice, "It's fine."
Harold and Caleb exchanged a glance.
Caleb quickly added, "Dinner is supposed to be lively. It's nice to chat and relax with everyone."
There were a few doctors with them, and they all started to persuade Melody to join as well.
She bit her lip and quietly said, "I'll ask Denvin."
However, just as she finished speaking, Denvin's casual voice came from behind, "Of course it's fine. What's the problem? Let's all eat together and have some fun."
He glanced at Jeremy before leading the way into the private room.
There were about eight or nine people, so there were enough seats.
Melody followed Jeremy into the room, and Denvin said to her, "Sit here. It'll be more convenient."
She knew that "more convenient" meant it would be easier to talk about the matters regarding Regallo later. She was about to walk over when her wrist was suddenly grabbed. Turning in confusion, she saw that it was Jeremy stopping her.
He was gripping her wrist tightly, and his brow furrowed slightly.
Jeremy didn't even know why he was doing this. He merely pulled her back on instinct when he saw Melody about to approach Denvin. One thing was clear, though—he didn't want Melody to have too much contact with Denvin.
This was his unconscious reaction.
She hesitantly called out, "Jeremy?"
Melody remained silent. Sitting next to Jeremy, she felt somewhat uncomfortable.
Yet, he acted as if he hadn't noticed, calmly sitting there as though nothing was amiss.
After a brief silence, she lifted her hand and reminded Jeremy gently, "Let go."
Jeremy's grip on her wrist remained tight.
It was already summer, and Melody was wearing short sleeves. The warmth of Jeremy's palm was pressed directly against her skin.
She tried to pull her hand away, but Jeremy's hand was like a pair of handcuffs, holding her firmly.
Only when she said that it hurt did he slowly release his grip.
A red mark appeared on her fair wrist, showing how tightly Jeremy had held it.
She lowered her lashes and asked, "You said you had something to say. What is it?"
Her voice was a bit heavy, sounding somewhat aggrieved.
