Jared thought for a moment. "The Thirty-Six Firmaments."
"Then do you know what lies above those the Thirty-Six Firmaments?"
Jared fell silent.
Above the the Thirty-Six Firmaments... what was there?
He had never even considered the question.
Everything Jared had ever learned told him the celestial realm was the the Thirty-Six Firmaments.
And the the Thirty-Six Firmaments were the ceiling of everything.
The celestials' high sanctuary was in the Twentieth Firmament. The Divine King was there too.
As far as he knew, that was the whole picture.
"Beyond the celestial realm lies a vast cosmic river of stars. And the celestial realm is only an insignificant speck within it.
"And somewhere in that sea of stars is a place called the Godrealm."
A gravity rarely heard in Alaric's voice made the words hit even harder.
"That is where the celestials' true foundations lie. The high sanctuary in the Twentieth Firmament is nothing more than a tentacle the celestials of the celestial realm extend into the Lower Realm. Only those above the Golden Immortal Realm barely know even a fragment of the truth about the Godrealm."
The Godrealm.
It was the first time Jared had ever heard the word.
Thoughts crashed through his mind one after another.
If the celestials' true foundations were in the Godrealm beyond the celestial realm, then the celestial powers he had fought before were only the tip of the iceberg?
No.
Not even that.
Only celestials above the Golden Immortal Realm qualified as the lowest rung of their race, and even they knew only a sliver of the Godrealm's truth.
As for the celestial cultivators beneath the high sanctuary—those below the Golden Immortal rank—they didn't even count as the bottom tier.
They were trash...
Maybe the celestials in the Godrealm didn't even know those clansmen existed.
Off to the side, Gwendolyn listened in stunned silence.
Their high sanctuary's eight branch lines had spent all this time scheming against one another, clawing over the so-called throne of Divine King.
And in the end, these people who had always called themselves noble celestials didn't even qualify as the lowest level of their own race.
Maybe they weren't celestials at all.
The impact of it made Gwendolyn feel dizzy, like the whole world had tilted under her feet.
"Mr. Chance, you've heard the phrase 'the heavens and the myriad worlds,' haven't you? You didn't actually think the celestial realm was the highest place among all those worlds."
Alaric's voice seemed to come from somewhere impossibly far away, each word like a boulder dropping straight onto Jared's chest.
Jared felt a cold prickle race across his back.
His mind was a complete blur.
It was like someone who had studied desperately all his life, believing that once he got into college and graduated, he would become one of the most learned people in the world.
And then, the moment he finally got there, someone told him college was nothing.
Above it were master's degrees, doctorates, academicians...
A college student was the cheapest, least valuable one of the lot.
Jared drew in a deep breath and forced down the turmoil churning inside him.
"Senior," Jared said at last, his voice rough, "how do you know all this?"
After all, Alaric was only at Golden Immortal Realm Level Five, a cultivator from the Eighteenth Firmament.
How could he possibly know this much?
Even the celestials themselves didn't seem to know about the Godrealm.
Yet Alaric did.
Alaric smiled.
"I only know this much because I happened to obtain a thread of inheritance from my forebears. Beyond that, I don't know anything else."
"Senior, then is the power of the Aureate Way just as vast?" Jared asked.
Alaric nodded.
"The Aureate Way's power across the heavens and the myriad worlds is far greater than what you've seen. In the entire celestial realm, every firmament has orders of the Aureate Way. Other realms have them too. Even in the mundane world, there are branches of the Aureate Way."
Images flashed through Jared's mind—the shrine-complexes in the mundane world, the wayfarer-priests, the arcane arts of the Aureate Way...
