"So you have shown yourself again."
Damian's voice chilled like a blade quenched in ice water, his anger sharpened by the insult. "I warned you to mind your own affairs. Are you incapable of understanding plain speech?"
Jared glanced at him. His violet eyes held no emotion, as though Damian were an object of no concern. "A decent man doesn't behave this way."
Damian stared for a moment, then laughed coldly.
The sound carried through the night wind with the disbelief of a powerful man challenged by an insect. "Decency? You are an itinerant cultivator from elsewhere, yet you dare lecture me about decency? Since you insist on dying, I will oblige you."
He gave a small wave that carried absolute command. "Take him."
The three elders moved as one.
Golden divine light erupted around them like three suns exploding simultaneously, turning the entire plaza white with brilliance.
Their Grand Zenith Immortal Level Two auras descended like three invisible mountains and locked completely onto Jared.
The pressure became tangible, as if water weighing billions of pounds were closing around him from every direction and making even a breath difficult.
The elder in front formed hand seals. Golden light gathered between his palms and took the shape of a sword about 11 feet long.
Complex sacred sigils moved across the blade. Each pattern contained a strand of complete law power. Fine black fractures opened in space wherever its edge passed, accompanied by a piercing shriek.
The elder on the left blurred into a golden afterimage and swept around Jared's flank.
He moved even faster than the first, flowing through the air like liquid gold and leaving several afterimages behind him.
A golden dagger rested in his hand, its blade carrying the cold sheen of moonlight. Every afterimage slashed at the same moment.
More than a dozen golden blade flares wove into a huge lotus in the air. Petals unfolded layer upon layer, each one a fatal attack.
The elder on the right carried no weapon. He remained where he was and cupped his hands around a dense golden sphere that condensed, compressed, and rotated like a miniature sun.
The divine power inside it grew increasingly violent. A low hum emerged, resembling the growl of an ancient beast about to awaken.
He thrust the sphere forward. It burst apart in midair and became three golden chains that twisted like living creatures as they lunged for Jared.
The attacks came from three directions with flawless coordination, reaching Jared within the same fraction of a second.
This precision was the result of thousands of rehearsals and could instantly deprive any cultivator below Grand Zenith Immortal Level Two of the ability to resist.
Rather than receive the three techniques directly, Jared moved.
He flashed backward as chaotic force erupted beneath his feet. Gray light spread in ripples and propelled his entire body away.
At the same instant, the Dragonslayer Sword left its sheath. Violet sword light intertwined with chaotic force and formed a gray-violet barrier, barely stopping the golden sword's frontal strike.
Clang!
The collision of metal exploded across the plaza and sent violent tremors through the surrounding air.
Jared's arm went slightly numb, and the force drove him back several steps. Fine cracks spread through every flagstone beneath his feet.
The golden sword failed to penetrate his defense, but the law power inside it traveled through his blade and entered his meridians, moving through his body like an electrical current.
He had no time to recover.
