Caspian swaggered toward Peter and stood before him. "Mr. Trevell, you're here tonight to complain about Carpenter Corporation, correct? Well, let me join in on the fun too. I'd like to complain about you, Mr. Trevell!"
"Who are you? What right do you have to stand here and speak to us?" Peter scolded Caspian.
He had no idea where Caspian had come from, but he was angered by his audacity. How dare Caspian try to raise a complaint against him?
"My identity isn't important. What's important is that you don't have the right to point fingers at others when you yourself have participated in illegal dealings!"
Caspian swept his gaze across the people who were present and announced, "I have evidence that Mr. Trevell is involved in some illegal activities. Would anyone be interested in taking a look?"
Jett immediately stepped forward to intervene. "We don't even know who you are. Why would we trust anything that comes out from your mouth?"
Yolanda also leapt to her feet to support Jett's statement. "Why was a random person granted entry into the hall? What are the staff doing?"
Devin chimed in, "Do you have an invitation for tonight's charity gala?"
Caspian didn't bother responding to any of their queries and instead waved his hand. A man entered the hall then, carrying stacks upon stacks of documents. The man handed the first set of documents to Gerard before distributing the others to the other guests. Nearly everyone had a set of documents in hand, and they began to study the contents in close detail.
Everyone's faces began to twist one after the other. They then began to criticize Peter. If the information highlighted in the documents were true, the tax evasion that Carpenter Corporation was suspected of having committed far paled in comparison to the illegal dealings Trevell Group was involved in.
Since she was biased toward Patrick, Winona also abandoned her own principles of kindness in favor of throwing her support behind Peter.
Gerard nodded, deciding that he wasn't going to make Peter take responsibility for what he had done. Not only was Gerard biased toward Patrick and the people who followed him, but Peter also had an immense influence over Tarthy City. Furthermore, Patrick and Peter were allies now. If Gerard was able to successfully take up the position of mayor, the Trevell family's contributions were undeniable.
He said lightly, "Sir, I have looked through the documents you have provided. Whether the information within is true or false, I believe the relevant departments will give you a satisfactory explanation once the investigations are concluded.
"Our main purpose for gathering here tonight is for the fundraiser, so I would like to put a pin in this issue for the time being!"
It was obvious that Gerard wanted to sweep the topic of Peter's misdeeds under the rug. He would gladly take part if the damning accusations were aimed at Elias. However, he would certainly not allow it if the target of the accusations was Peter.
