Only Casey noticed the sparkle in Ignatius' slightly narrowed eyes as he took in the chaos unfolding before him. She also noticed how his gaze lingered on that person—Jack. Following Ignatius' gaze, Casey also directed her attention toward him.
Jack was sitting in front of Elias and leisurely enjoying his tea as if he was completely separate from the conflict that was taking place. Meanwhile, Specter, who had acted boldly and brashly in front of Ignatius now stood obediently behind Jack, reminiscent of a tame kitten, although his eyes were glacial when he swept his gaze over everyone that was present.
As a result, Casey couldn't help but feel as if Jack was truly an extraordinary existence.
Finally, Gerard waved his hand lightly and said, "Stop arguing. Everyone here is a pillar of Tarthy City. I trust that the four families are all citizens who abide by the law. If someone was involved in illegal activities, the Tarthy City government will not stand by and do nothing. Let's put a pin in this issue for the time being."
It appeared that Gerard wanted to put an end to the conflict with just his words alone. Although he hadn't officially taken up the position of mayor of Tarthy City, his eventual appointment was practically already set in stone according to the polls. Thus, his words carried a certain degree of authority.
The whispers quieted down. However, Devin and Peter had no intention of letting Elias off the hook. Devin produced a stack of documents he had prepared beforehand and offered it to Gerard.
"Mr. Cadwallader, here's the evidence that Carpenter Corporation has been involved in tax evasion as well as other illegal dealings in the past few years. There's also evidence that they have been creating malicious competition to cause strife in the market. Mr. Cadwallader, we hope you can review these documents."
Since Gerard was present tonight, Devin decided to lay out all his cards on the table. He was determined to crush Carpenter Corporation into the ground tonight, ensuring that the company would have no chance to rise from the ashes.
Gerard's expression turned severe. He was about to accept the stack of documents from Devin when a powerful voice boomed through the hall, reminiscent of a clap of thunder in the night. The man's voice captured the attention of everyone who was present.
"Good evening, everyone. Since there are so many reporters, foreign reporters, as well as the leaders of Tarthy City here tonight as my witnesses, I would like to officially launch a complaint!"
Ignatius' eyes were still narrowed. He had been shocked by Caspian's sudden appearance, but he had carefully covered up his surprise and hadn't moved an inch from where he was seated. After all, Caspian's reputation preceded him. Even Ignatius had heard of him ever since he allied himself with Jack.
He didn't expect that Caspian would show his face in Tarthy City. It seemed that the outcome of the power struggle had once again become uncertain.
Meanwhile, Patrick was staring at Caspian coldly. He had never met Caspian back when he was still in Alnewgo. But just from Caspian's demeanor alone, Patrick could tell that he was a formidable figure. Furthermore, it seemed that Caspian had announced his presence because he had a score to settle.
Patrick wondered if Caspian was allied with Jack. His face twisted slightly at the mere thought of the latter, but he swiftly schooled his expression.
Not only were they in Tarthy City now, but Patrick was no longer the same man he was before. He didn't have a reason to fear Jack.
