Chapter 836

Third Person’s POV

Lance kept up the polite banter with Germain, keeping things smooth.

Adelaide sat back, quietly observing the room. Ever since Germain had walked in, she noticed his eyes lingering on Paisley with

If your pride is so fragile, why didn’t you stand up for your birth mother when she was being abused?”

Carla opened her mouth to snap back, but Lance shot her a look so cold his aura forced her to shut up.

She could only mutter under her breath, “What is it to you anyway?”

Adelaide sneered.

“It’s nothing to me. But a female wolf who treats her own mother with such heartlessness? I doubt any decent Alpha would ever want you.”

Carla went to argue again, but Germain cut her off sharply.

“Carla, watch your manners.”

She glared at Adelaide, her teeth clenched. “Yes, Father.”

Germain was actually white-hot with fury. As a guest, Adelaide’s words were a direct slap to his face, but he had a much bigger mission to pull off tonight. He had to swallow his anger.

“Alright, tonight is supposed to be a celebration. Let’s not drag up old, unpleasant history.”

But Adelaide uncharacteristically refused to let it go..

“What’s wrong with saying it? Am I not stating facts? Not a single pup raised by the Blue Abyss has any decent manners.”

Germain’s chest heaved. Was she literally accusing him of being a garbage leader who couldn’t manage his own people?

Lance frowned, turning to Adelaide.

“That’s enough, Adelaide. You’re crossing the line tonight.”

Adelaide’s eyes flashed with a mix of hurt and anger.

“You’re not backing me up either? Am I wrong?”

Lance’s jaw tightened, suppressing his own temper.

“I didn’t say you were wrong, but there’s a time and place. You’re a Luna now, not a spoiled brat.”

Watching them bicker, the Blue Abyss wolves were utterly bewildered.

Everyone in the capital knew Alpha Lance worshipped the ground his mate walked on. Why were they suddenly having a massive blowout at a formal dinner?

Paisley stood up, stepping in to play peacemaker.

“Sidney invited us here as guests, let’s not make it awkward for everyone. Why don’t Sidney and I take you outside for a walk?”

Sidney had actually loved watching Adelaide tear into Carla-she’d always hated Carla’s spoiled attitude, so she’d suddenly developed a bit of a soft spot for Adelaide.

Hearing Paisley’s suggestion, she stood up with a bright smile.
