Raven dropped to one knee, baring the back of his neck to show his loyalty and submission, but the disappointment in his voice was clear as day.

Germain went pale. He glared down at Raven for a long time before finally softening his

tone.

“Ever since we got to the capital, our plans have tanked one after another. My mental state has hit rock bottom, and I just wanted a distraction to take the edge off. She’s just a she–wolf, anyway. Since you’re so dead set against it, I’ll drop it.”

Everyone was making slightly awkward small talk, and the tension was coming entirely from the silent petty war between Maya and Sidney.

Every time Maya opened her mouth, Sidney would shut her down with a sarcastic jab, leaving Lance, Adelaide, and Paisley sitting there scratching their heads.

Thankfully, the suffocating small talk didn’t last long. The butler soon announced in a booming voice that Alpha Germain had arrived.
