Chapter 837

Third Person’s POV

Back in the grand hall, Raven remained tucked in the shadows, his eyes locked onto Lance.

Lance was keeping up the casual banter with Germain, but his expression was far from relaxed. He kept glancing toward the doorway where Adelaide had left, which only made Raven ore convinced that the blowout between the couple was real and not just a performance.

Now that the room was cleared of any unwanted distractions, it was the perfect layout to start pulling Lance to their side.

“So, Lance,” Germain said, lifting his glass with a casual shrug. “How has your mother been holding up lately?”

Lance leaned back against his chair.

“She’s doing great. I heard Luna Pandora has been incredibly sick. Is she doing any better?”

“The Moon Goddess has been kind-she’s finally turning a corner,” Germain said, setting his cup down with a theatrical sigh of relief:

Lance had been waiting for exactly that opening.

“Good to hear. So, when do you plan on packing up and leaving the capital?”

Germain burst into a booming, hearty laugh.

“Hahaha! What, don’t you want me to stick around the capital and rest a bit longer? You’re in an awful hurry to kick me out.”

“Not at all,” Lance said with an indifferent smile. “Just making conversation.”

Raven chose that moment to step out of the shadows, smoothly taking over the conversation.

“We have a mountain of backlogged business waiting for us at the territory. Alpha Germain will most likely be prepped to move out by the end of the month.”

Lance lowered his eyes to hide his thoughts. He clearly didn’t give a damn about the answer, and his eyes kept drifting back toward the door.

The hall fell into a brief silence.

Raven waited quietly, but when Lance didn’t throw out a new topic, he realized he couldn’t read the man’s real play tonight.

He refused to believe Lance and Adelaide had tagged along purely to chaperon Paisley; there had to be a deeper motive.

Then, Lance suddenly turned dead serious. “Alpha, with all due respect, I have to be blunt. The way you treated your first mate was incredibly heartless. It’s no wonder Adelaide lost her temper tonight.”

The sudden callout caught both Germain and Raven completely off guard.

They traded a lightning-fast look. Why the hell was he dragging up ancient history out of nowhere? Was he really coddling his mate so much that her being upset made him push the issue?

For Alpha Lance-a man who literally ruled the battlefield–to lose his spine and indulge his mate without any principles was just ridiculous.

Meanwhile, out in the backyard garden.

Adelaide and Paisley followed Sidney down the winding paths. They passed a couple of omegas trimming the hedges every now and then, but Adelaide noticed a distinct lack of any pack enforcers.

This was highly unusual. Any high-profile, influential pack in the capital would have guards actively patrolling their home turf.

Adela de intentionally manufactured an excuse, turning to Sidney.

“We haven’t even had dinner yet and I’m starving. Can we take a break and get some pastries?”

Sidney put on a bright smile.

“Of course! I’ll have the omegas get everything prepped right away.”

By the time Maya hurried out to the garden, she ran into a group of omegas bustling around setting up tables and chairs.

It was obvious the women were planning to camp out there and chat.

Maya let out a quiet sigh of relief. Her biggest worry was that an idiot like Sidney would wander off and lead Adelaide right to Germain’s study-which was practically a vault for all his dirty secrets.

Still, she had a job to do. She had to execute Germain’s orders and keep a laser focus on Adelaide and Paisley.

With that in mind, she pasted on a warm expression and strolled over.

“Luna Adelaide, the flowers out here are stunning. Why not walk around a bit more?”

“We’ve seen enough,” Paisley answered, completely cutting her off.

“I’m a soldier who lives on the training grounds, I don’t care about flowers. A quick look is plenty.”

Seeing how cold Paisley was acting, Maya turned her attention to Adelaide.A

The Ironthorn Commander’s face was still tight with lingering irritation as she stared off into the distance.

What Maya didn’t realize was that Adelaide wasn’t spacing out at all; she was running a mental tally of every omega on the grounds to estimate the Blue Abyss’s active manpower.

Before showing up tonight, Adelaide knew they wouldn’t stumble on any smoking-gun evidence here.

Even if there had been any, it would have been buried or burned long ago.

The only spot actually worth casing was Alpha Germain’s study, but since they were here for a dinner party, demanding to see his office made zero sense and would only trip Germain’s radar early.

Sidney’s invitation to Paisley was definitely a front for something dirty. She hadn’t been sure what the play was earlier, but now she

knew.

Adelaide was incredibly grateful she’d tagged along tonight, otherwise, she couldn’t even imagine what kind of horror show Paisley would have walked into.
