You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 779

“Mom, what’s so funny?”

Inside the car, Selara leaned her head on her hand, staring out at the Riverdale night lights. Suddenly, she let out a soft laugh that broke the silence and made everyone jump a little. Sara glanced over, frowning.

Selara shifted in her seat. “Can’t I laugh if I’m happy?”

“Uncle Oliver and Aunt Patricia are fighting, and you’re over here smiling?”

Selara didn’t bother to answer, but Jaxon, sitting next to her, caught onto something. He lowered his voice. “What did you and your sister-in-law talk about just now?”

Selara crooked her finger at him. “Come closer, I’ll tell you.”

Jaxon leaned in, eager. As soon as Selara finished whispering, he sucked in a sharp breath, ready to say something, but she slapped a hand over his mouth before he could get a word out.

Jaxon’s eyes went wide with surprise.

Sara watched them, instantly on alert. “Hey, what are you two up to? Keeping secrets from me? I’m your daughter, not some stranger. Why are you acting like I’m an outsider?”

“You’re single. If you heard this, it would probably just make you sad. Trust me, it’s better if you don’t know.”

Jaxon just stared. Sara rolled her eyes.

By the time they got back to Golden Bay, it was already eleven. The older folks were all asleep. Jaxon tugged Selara into their bedroom and locked the door behind them. His eyes were serious. “Were you telling the truth? Is she really pregnant?”

“I have no idea. I was just guessing,” Selara said, shrugging as she disappeared into the walk-in closet to hang up her coat.
