Logan fumbled, feeling as though he had stepped on a landmine.
Logan immediately sprinted to the sofa, not taking a peek at Henry.
As soon as Logan sat down, Henry's handphone rang.
Henry stared at the screen, displaying Monique's incoming call.
'I think she's calling to beg him!'
Henry initially did not intend to have Simon locked up for a long time as he was only being charged for fighting. It was impossible for him to be charged with kidnapping as there was no sufficient evidence. It was just like what Angel said: she had called Simon for help.
Even though Angel was anxiously looking for her mother, her action itself of seeking help from Simon could prove just how important he was to Angel.
Henry knew Monique would plead for Simon, but seeing her sincerely begging him for Simon just made Henry feel even more unsatisfied.
The phone rang for some time, but no one picked up. Monique's eyebrows frowned as her fingers tightened on her handphone.
'Why isn't he picking up? 'Is he going back on his word? Did he change his mind not to let Simon free?'
Then, a voice was heard from her handphone saying, "Sorry, the number you've dialed is not answering." Then, Monique placed her handphone on her palms, disappointed.
Louise sensed the unease settling in Monique and smiled, "Maybe the chairman is busy. Later, you can call him again. Who knows, maybe he's having a meeting."
Monique did not answer, but somehow felt relieved.
A human's true nature can be made out after spending some time with them. However, sometimes we can see their true colors in just a short time.
Those who were willing to be by your side at your lowest without a second thought were definitely people worth appreciating.
Logan had the urge to remind Henry, "Hey, your handphone is ringing!"
However, before Logan could even speak, the call cut off once again, but it was not because it was being hung up. Instead, it was disconnected automatically after ringing for a certain duration.
The room dropped into silence after the handphone stopped ringing, as though it was calm after a tornado, though it was the calm before the storm.
Henry reached out for a packet of cigarettes in the drawer with his long fingers. He took out a cigarette and hung it between his lips, casting the rest of the cigarettes on the desk. He took a lighter and opened up the cover as his towering silhouette leaned against the back of the leather office chair. He spun the wheel and a faint yellow flame appeared before him.
Henry stared at the flame and placed it closed to his cigarette. He inhaled and smoke engulfed the part between his mouth and nose, giving his brain a numbing sensation.
Logan was surprised. He knew Henry seldom smoked and would smoke one once in a while. However, he would usually smoke at night when he had to burn the midnight oil to work overtime, to keep himself fresh. Henry seldom smoked in broad daylight unless he was socializing with his customers.
Logan got even more curious as he made an audacious action by pulling out a chair to sit beside Henry's office desk. "It's only meaningful if two people smoke together." As Logan spoke, he picked up Henry's packet of cigarettes on the desk. He lit one of the cigarettes and started smoking.
