"You two make a great couple!" Henry’s rage grew; he took big steps and headed out.
Monique knew Simon would be doomed if Henry just walked away.
Facing Henry's back, Monique shouted, "What do you want me to do so that you’ll let him go? Those pictures were taken by someone with ulterior intentions. Nothing is going on between me and Simon."
Henry came to a halt.
"When I brought Angel to register at the kindergarten, I had no idea that it was Simon's. I only found out when later, and that was the day when Angel got into a fight with another kid. The teacher called me over to resolve the issue, but I ended up getting into an argument with the kid's parents. Simon helped, and to repay him, I invited him to a meal." Monique choked up, wondering whether Henry would believe it.
Monique thought she had to give it a shot; Simon was innocent. She could not get him involved in her mess.
"I went through the pictures this morning. I don't know who did this, but the angle that they used to take those pictures was unique and could easily make anyone who saw it misunderstand. Nevertheless, what I said was the truth. All the teachers know about the fight. If you don't believe me, you can look it up."
Henry's back remained facing Monique, but the cold emanating from him was not as strong as it was before.
Monique added, "Let me see him. I can persuade him to leave the city, but please don't put him in jail. It would only ruin his future. I'll do anything if you let him go."
Henry fumbled and turned around. "Anything?"
Monique could not figure out what Henry was plotting as she stared at Henry's cold eyes. She firmly nodded.
'All he wanted was for me to beg and obey him. All I should do from now on is to just follow what he says.'
However, Monique realized that her actions could possibly shatter a man's pride. She decided to accept Louise's opinion.
Monique went up to Henry, eyes blinking, "I just don't want Simon to end up in prison because of me, that's all. After all, he was arrested because he brought Angel to look for me. Angel is a kind girl; if she knew that Simon was arrested because he brought her out, Angel would be really upset.
“I really just see Simon as a friend; nothing more."
Henry glanced at the woman, who was begging. He remained emotionless, and said in a deep and faint voice, "But what you said before was different!"
Louise quickly went up. "Mr. Moore, what's done is done; the most important thing is that nothing is going on between them in the future. I don’t think Monique will go back on her word. You don't have to worry; as Monique said, she can persuade Mr. Leeds to leave the city."
Henry's expression darkened. Since Monique was not intending to stay by his side, all he could do was to ensure that Monique would be cooperative and make Angel accept a new mother.
