Henry gave Monique a belittling look. “You don’t want her hurt but extracting verbal promises is useless? Do you think there’s a higher power keeping track of all this? Are you dumb?” he taunted while petting her head.
His words hit her like a brick. “You’re right! I should get you to sign an agreement!”
Henry glared at the woman. Did she really think he was a big bad wolf who eats children?
Was he that loathsome?
Did she suffer from persecutory delusions?
Monique knew her request was out of the blue but the man was fickle-minded. She was insecure about her standing in his life. “Dearie, why don’t you sign an agreement? You already promised you wouldn’t hurt her, the agreement is just assurance for me,” Monique said coquettishly.
It was rare for Monique to be flirtatious which made the display somewhat comical. She truly was willing to do anything for Angel.
He would get Mandy to draw up the marriage agreement and include this.
“I’ll get it done tomorrow,” Henry said.
“Really?” Monique’s lips were curled into a sincere smile as her eyes widened in joyful surprise. She looked like a child who stumbled upon candy. “The noodles will be cold, eat up!”
Henry let out a huff. “All this talk has ruined my appetite.”
To be honest, he was still hungry. He had tasted Monique’s cooking before and found it to be quite to his taste. The tantalizing smell of the instant noodles wafted to his nostrils.
His stomach grumbled.
The food tasted delicious and while he appreciated the feeding, he found it too slow for his worked up appetite.
Monique watched Henry gobble down the food like a starved animal. She was proud that he enjoyed her cooking.
A proud man like Henry was not used to seeing his woman leave his side without permission. Monique blamed herself for being caught in an awkward position with Nick Johnny. Henry did not see the bullying done by Paul Longchamp, hence he misinterpreted the situation.
If Monique had allowed Henry to lead her, the misunderstanding could have been avoided.
Henry finished the bowl of instant noodles and lowered his cutleries. Satisfaction was written all over his face.
Monique bit her lip. She wanted to clarify the misunderstanding that happened. “I’m sorry about what happened earlier. I shouldn’t have left your side. There were a lot of people around you and I wanted to check out the food. I kept an eye on you as I ate but in the end, I lost track of you. Next thing I knew, Paul Longchamp appeared and started taunting me. Nick Johnny happened to be there and helped me out. I don’t really know Nick, really. I’ve only met him twice.”
