“It smells lovely!” Angel’s stomach was growling as she gazed at the food served in front of her. With her spoon, she scooped out the largest chunk of beef in her stew to eat.
Angel and Monique were carnivores; they enjoyed meat. Monique thought it was funny when she saw Angel with a mouthful of food. “Slow down, Little Angel, or you’ll choke.”
“You have to call me Angel when we’re in front of the teacher or the teacher will complain.” Angel had a big chunk of meat in her mouth. She took a while to swallow it before offering her irrelevant answer.
Monique was speechless. On the contrary, Simon was amused by Angel’s cuteness and intelligence. He passed a dish to Monique with a smile on his face. “Monnie, you should try this. This meat is one of the best dishes in the restaurant. The pierogi tastes good too; it’s almost similar to the one next to our school.”
Monique smiled; dimples appeared faintly on her cheeks. “Thank you.”
She helped herself to the feast in front of her. She tried some of the pierogi; the dough was soft and it had a good amount of filling. The flavor was rich and juicy, it had a hearty taste, and it was positively delectable.
“Oh, it’s really good.” She nodded.
Simon was gleeful to see Monique satisfied. “Eat more then!”
Angel’s mouth was filled with food, and her cheeks looked like a frog as she jabbered, “I want to try, I want to try.”
Simon passed her a pierogi and said, “Take it slowly. There’s plenty more.”
When Simon was in kindergarten, he could feel that she was distancing herself, and when he saw Monique’s little gesture, he wondered if it was because of what he said that day which made her feel awkward.
“Monnie, I had a few drinks that night and said a load of crap, so please forget what I said. I treated you like a sister. As long as you’re happy, I’m happy. Our kindergarten may not be big, but our teachers are professionals. They’ve been trained. You can put your mind at ease when Angel is at our kindergarten.”
Simon had met Henry, and saw the car he was driving. He knew he was a wealthy man and that it was Monique’s arrangement to have her daughter study in his school. He was really afraid that she might transfer her daughter to another school because of what happened that day, or because of him.
Monique felt some warmth in her heart. He only thought of her as his sister, but that was alright. She did not have to feel awkward talking to him,.“Simon, I get it. I like this kindergarten, and it’s your school, so of course I’m relieved. Angel’s already paid a year's worth of school fees, so I’ll keep her at this kindergarten.”
