It was very late at night when Monique succeeded in coaxing Angel to sleep. Monique tried to get up but her hand was tightly grasped by Angel. A slight movement and Angel would wake up.
Monique quietly freed her hand and patted Angel on the back.
"Angel, I would always love to keep you company but for the sake of providing you a better future, I've got to work harder." Monique said faintly as she patted Angel's back.
Angel continued sleeping soundly, as though she understood what Monique said. Later, Monique cautiously stepped out of the room.
It was perhaps because Angel was still new to the kindergarten and Monique was late to pick her up. Which was why Angel felt like she was being left out.
Monique sighed as she exited the room.
Monique stepped into the chairman's study room and it was her first time being there. Henry's study room was very tidy and neat. It was equipped with a huge shelf full of books, giving off a faintish aroma of literature. On the other corner of the room was a sturdy wooden table with a laptop on top.
Monique walked into the room and realized she forgot to inform Henry that she would need to borrow his computer. That idea was soon forfeited when she thought that it was already too late and Henry might be sleeping. After all, she planned to use the computer for only a brief moment. She decided that she would inform Henry about it once he got back.
She booted up the laptop, started looking up for more information and continued with her proposal.
Mrs. Lawson got up from bed in the middle of the night because she was thirsty. It was probably because of the salty dishes she ate during dinner. She caught a glimpse that the lights in the Young Master's study room were still on. She then strode her way to the study room.
Given that the Young Master was not back yet, it could only mean that Monique was still lingering in the study room since she was muttering about getting her proposal done ever since she came back home.
'She’s really ambitious. It's only her first day at work and she's going all out into it.'
Mrs. Lawson respected Monique. The Young Master was pampering Monique all this while. Given her status, Monique could just stay at home instead of going to work and just ordered everyone around her to serve her.
"I got up to get a cup of water to drink and I saw the lights on in the study room. So, I figured that you're still doing your work. Here, I cooked some meatball bolognese. Eat it and go to bed." Mrs. Lawson said with a gentle tone as she placed the bowl of meatball bolognese in front of Monique.
Monique blinked as she stared at Mrs. Lawson. Mrs. Lawson's gentle expression burned into Monique's eyes. Never once in her life did she have someone who was concerned about her and cared for her. A sense of warmth swirled within Monique, as her eyes became teary.
If she were to leave that house someday in the future, she would probably miss Mrs. Lawson the most.
Monique finally understood Angel's feelings. She understood her unwillingness to be parted and her sense of insecurity that night.
Monique felt that her throat was rather dry than she expected as she choked. She said, "Thank you, Mrs. Lawson."
"Silly, why bother the formality. I've heated up the bolognese. Hurry up and eat it. Then, go to bed or else you'll be late for work tomorrow." Mrs. Lawson advised.
