It seemed as though Miss Sophia was talking to Angel. However, Angel did not say a word.
Monique felt a pinch in her heart as she felt bad. Monique’s hands were on her lips as she called out, "Angel!"
Angel burst into tears the moment she spotted Monique.
All the other children were picked up by their parents a long time ago. Angel on the other hand was staring at the entrance with anticipation. At the end, her mother did not show.
A sense of miserable feeling swirled within Angel as she was the only who was not picked up.
She never felt even that sad when she was alone at home when her mother used to be home late.
"I'm sorry, I'm really sorry babe. Today's my first day at work. I got busy so I lost track of time." Monique carried Angel and patted her back as she comforted her.
Miss Sophia came up and comforted Angel, "There...there...Angel. Stop crying. See, your Mommy's here now."
After crying for some time, Angel finally stopped. Monique kissed her on the forehead and said, "I'm sorry Angel. I promise you I’ll be on time next time."
Angel nodded her head as she choked because of the crying.
Miss Sophia told Monique, "Angel's mom, you should pick Angel up earlier as she just started kindergarten. She still isn’t familiar with the environment."
Monique nodded apologetically, "I'm sorry for being late, Miss Sophia."
Miss Sophia smiled and said, "It's alright, I felt sorry for Angel when I saw her crying her eyes out. Just remember to pick her up earlier tomorrow."
Monique gave up on her initial thought of heading back to the company to rush on her proposal after seeing Angel so upset. Plus, Angel was not as talkative as how she used to be.
Monique knew deep in her heart that Angel was mad at her.
"Angel, let's go eat something delicious, alright?" Monique put on a sweet smile and looked at Angel with a loving expression.
"Really?" Angel finally showed some minor changes in her expression. However, that only lasted for a brief moment. She reverted back to her original expression in no time.
"Of course, let's eat whatever you want ." Monique said as she saw Angel's hands still placed on her tiny head.
"Then pick me up earlier tomorrow!" Angel puckered her tiny mouth.
