Henry just saw her as his lover and debtor. To him, she was disposable and insignificant. She had no power to fight back. Monique’s inferiority complex worsened her anxiety. Henry abandoning her in the afternoon left a tear in her heart.

Looking at Angel’s tearful face, Monique’s tears started to fall once more—huge droplets landed on Angel’s hand.

“Mommy, don’t cry. Angel will follow Mommy.” Angel wiped off her tears with her tiny hands repeatedly while she stared at Monique, trying to hide away her tears.

She did not want to upset her mother. If she was suffering, Angel was willing to leave with her.

Monique looked at Angel tenderly and hugged her with one hand, while she wiped her tears away with the other hand. She raised her head to stare at the ceiling and held her tears back.

Both Angel and her needed to be stronger.

They would always have each other.

Angel felt the warmth from her mother’s embrace and Monique also felt the same warm feelings from Angel.

They held each other tightly in the cold and dark night.

Angel removed herself and looked at Monique with a smile. Monique said, “Let’s wash our faces and go downstairs. Mommy’s is famished.”

Angel chuckled and pouted, “Me too.”

The atmosphere thickened. Henry was already in a foul mood in the meeting room during the afternoon. They had verified the details of the contract with D&E before. The company had confirmed that there were no issues with the contract, that was why Henry sent someone from the marketing department to sign the contract while he brought Monique to the mall.

During the signing, D&E suddenly retracted the agreement and picked on a few insignificant points on the contract. They demanded to add the clause ‘Compensation for loss and damage must be approved by the other party’.

The marketing manager, Steven Furey declined their request. If they agreed, D&E could deny any claims made by their company. The bank would deny their request for monetary compensation. The contract would just be a useless piece of paper.

Henry went back to the meeting room and modified the contract accordingly. He analyzed the current situation and deduced that someone must be trying to sabotage this collaboration.

They stayed in the meeting room until the sky had turned dark. They were all tired and hungry after 6 to 7 hours of stressful meetings. Henry thought of Monique who might be waiting for him in the office and agreed to let them rest for half an hour.

However, when he hurried back to his office, she was nowhere to be found. Mandy also mentioned that she had not seen her this entire afternoon. He wondered if she had stayed in the car.
