Monique’s retaliation probably triggered Henry’s desire to conquer her.
If she stopped being so reserved and turned into a gold-digging whore, he might lose interest in her soon.
She would give everything for the sake of her daughter. Her biggest fear was that Angel would not be willing to leave Henry.
At that moment, she decided that she would give up fighting and surrender fully.
Angel woke up from hunger. She opened her eyes in a daze and saw her mother crying beside her. She called out concernedly, “Mommy, what happened?”
Monique quickly wiped her tears away, but her eyes were red and puffy. “Nothing, the dust got into my eyes.”
Angel was fully awake and stared at her with eyes wide opened as though she could see through her soul. She used her tiny hands to wipe the tears from Monique’s face. “Did Daddy bully you, Mommy?”
Monique’s eyes flickered. “No, he didn’t. Mommy’s just hungry.”
Angel knew that her mom rarely cried, probably Monique had never shed any tears in front of her. “Mommy, let’s go after Daddy and make him pay. I won’t allow anybody to hurt you.”
Angel said determinedly while she prepared to get out of bed.
Monique felt a warmth spread across her chest. She held Angel tightly in her embrace. “Angel, if one day Mommy decides to leave this place, will you follow me?”
“Why?” Angel tilted her head and stared at her with her big, round eyes. “So Daddy did hurt you?”
“Not like that.” Monique sighed. She tugged a loose strand of hair behind Angel’s ears. “Angel, I know you really like him. No matter how hard you try to deny it, he’s not your biological father. We owe him money. We’ll leave after we finish repaying him.”
Or they should just not repay him at all. She could do it when she grew up. Please!
Let him be their creditor forever. She did not mind being in debt to such a nice person.
It did not matter to Angel that he was not her biological father.
She was satisfied as long as she felt that he was.
Angel had so much to tell her mom, but her words got stuck in her throat when she saw her mother’s glistening eyes.
She was also trying her very best to stop the tears from falling.
