When They Beg I Rise (Lemira) novel Chapter 751

The moment Lemira Langston uttered those words, Evelina Sterling’s eyes flew open in shock, her face drained of color.

Evelina stared at Lemira as if she’d seen a ghost. How could this woman possibly know her father wasn’t dead?

When did Lemira find out?

What else had she uncovered?

A wave of panic surged through Evelina. Just moments earlier, she had finally managed to relax; now, she was back on edge, even worse than before.

Her nerves were in complete disarray.

Asher Langston’s mind went blank with disbelief.

He looked at Lemira incredulously. “How could Evelina’s father not be dead?”

“Because I saw Evelina meet with her father myself—her father, who everyone thought had died years ago. They’ve continued their contact in secret.”

Lemira turned to glance at Evelina. “Remember that time Caspian kicked you out of the car after beating you up? You went straight to a café and met with someone. Have you really forgotten who that was?”

Evelina was so terrified she started to shake. Lemira really did know.

Had she known all along?

Evelina felt her legs give way and collapsed onto the lawn, unable to say a single word.

What was she supposed to do now?

Lucian Langston pressed urgently, “Are you saying Evelina’s father is really alive? Then where is he?”

“He's in hiding, and he's done a very good job. I’ve been searching for quite some time and still haven’t been able to locate him,” Lemira replied.

But before Lemira had even finished speaking, Evelina burst out, “Lemira, you’re lying! My father’s been dead for years. You must have been mistaken—I never met with him.”

Since Lemira hadn’t actually found her father, there was no way Evelina could admit anything now.

No, as long as she was still stuck in this mess, if the Langston family learned her father was alive, she’d be ruined!

Asher pressed Lemira, “What else did you find?”

It dawned on Asher then—he had indeed given those instructions earlier that afternoon. Who could have predicted Evelina would betray him like this?

After hanging up, Asher looked ready to explode. He glared at Evelina. “Where’s the money?”

Evelina, sweating and panicked, stammered, “I—I transferred it to the project manager at PZ Group. He promised there’d be a kickback from the company that way.”

It was the only excuse left for her. There was no way she could admit the funds had gone to her own father—if she did, the Langston family would destroy her for sure.

Damn it! Evelina had calculated so carefully, but she never imagined that wretched Lemira had known the truth about her father for so long.

No wonder Lemira had suddenly insisted on returning to the Langston family during that period. Back then, Evelina thought Lemira was coming back to fight over the family fortune, but now she realized Lemira had already begun to suspect everything.

“You complete fool—how could you believe something like that?” Asher roared, his anger making him dizzy. He couldn’t believe Evelina would pull another greedy stunt at such a critical time.

He slapped Evelina across the face. “I don’t care what you have to do, but you’d better get that money back. Otherwise, you’re finished!”

How could Evelina have the nerve to scheme over so much money?
