Lemira’s words landed like a bombshell.
They left a deep impression on everyone present.
Evelina’s face went deathly pale; she could barely stay on her feet. This couldn’t be happening.
If Lemira remembered what happened in the car accident now, and revealed that her father hadn’t died, or what her father actually did back then, she would be finished.
Hadn’t Lemira been unable to recall anything all these years? Why would she suddenly remember now, at such a critical moment!
The three Langston brothers were all visibly stunned.
Lucian was the first to speak. “Lemmy, why didn’t you tell me something so important?”
Lemira let out a cold laugh. “Tell you? Look at what you’ve done! Our parents have barely been laid to rest, and you’re already giving their room to the daughter of our enemy. Aren’t you afraid of karma?”
“That’s not true!” Evelina cried out, her voice shrill with panic. “I don’t know anything about this. I believe my father isn’t that kind of person.”
Although Evander found it strange, he still stood up for Evelina. He said to Lemira, “You think we’ll just believe you because you claim to suddenly remember something?”
Evelina immediately relaxed, continuing to sob in Evander’s arms.
Lemira’s lips curled into a frosty smile. “So you’d rather believe an outsider than your own family?”
“Everyone knows you and Eve have issues. What if you’re just making things up? Besides, everyone who was there back then is dead—who can prove what you say is true?” Evander insisted, clearly unwilling to believe Evelina’s father could be involved.
Asher glanced at Evander. “Take Evelina back to her room and let her rest.”
“Asher!” Evander protested.
Asher frowned. “Are you going to ignore what I say now, too?”
Evander fell silent, then led Evelina away.
Evelina’s knees were shaking. Thank goodness Evander didn’t believe Lemira. Thank goodness there had been no witnesses at the scene, and no one would believe Lemira’s words.
Otherwise, she’d be done for.
“Why should I tell you?” Lemira replied, her tone mocking. “If the person who saved me wasn’t Evelina’s father, if there’s more to the story of that accident, if it really does involve Evelina’s father—then what does that make all of you?”
Lemira’s meaning couldn’t have been clearer.
Asher staggered back a few steps, looking shaken. “That’s impossible! Lemira, you’re lying.”
If the accident really was connected to Evelina’s father, then Evelina was the daughter of their enemy!
Asher’s voice turned sharp. “That’s impossible. You’re just saying this to sabotage the partnership between the Langston Group and PZ Group, aren’t you?”
Asher refused to believe Lemira, especially at such a critical moment.
Any mistake now could jeopardize the partnership between the Langston Group and PZ Group.
Lemira’s gaze was icy. “Why don’t you take a guess?”
“Lemira, stop this nonsense. Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. I’ll look into the clues myself. But just look at the chaos you’ve caused today!”
