When They Beg I Rise (Lemira) novel Chapter 692

That was a detail he hadn't expected.

"Yes, sir. We haven't found any specific leads yet, and we don't want to tip them off. Right now, the only way forward is through the artificial intelligence project. We need Evelina to embezzle company funds, which will lead us to her father. Once we have him, our hands won't be so tied."

Orion looked out at the street beyond the hallway. It seemed like the most reliable plan for now.

Only by capturing Evelina's supposedly dead father could they learn what really happened back then.

His expression turned serious. "Have people watch PZ Group and the Langston Group. I'll assign my top computer experts to monitor their accounts. Notify me the second there's any movement."

"Yes, Mr. Everhart."

Orion glanced back at the hospital room, his eyes filled with sorrow. He forced himself to look away. "Take good care of her."

He would give his all to drag the person behind this into the light.

And then, he would tell her the truth himself.

——

Lemira was discharged from the hospital soon after.

Before leaving, she looked back at the top-floor ward, hoping the old woman would recover quickly.

Lemira went straight back to the university. The leaves on the roadside maple trees had all turned yellow. Summer was almost over.

When she got back to her dorm, only Stella was there.

Stella said in surprise, "You didn't even tell me you were being discharged! How's the injury on your leg? I had someone get you this scar cream. It's really effective and not even available on the open market."

Lemira glanced at the scar cream, then took out the one from her own pocket. They looked identical.

Stella looked at it. "Orion gave you that, didn't he? And so much of it! This stuff is incredibly hard to get."

"I hope it works as well as you say. The last thing I want is a scar."

Lemira pulled up her loose pant leg, revealing another burn scar on her upper thigh.

Stella was shocked. "When were you injured there? Was it in the car crash?"

"Yes. I almost died. Someone pulled me out. But the story has always been that Evelina's father saved me, then died in the explosion when he went back for my parents. But I've always felt there was a third person there... someone who actually saved me."

Thaddeus was in his office and was surprised to see her. "How's your injury? You don't need to be at work. You should be resting."

"Are there any results from the investigation?"

Thaddeus nodded. "It was deliberate. We've caught the guy. He was paid off, a cash transaction, so we couldn't trace who hired him. But the suspect is most likely one of our competitors."

"I know who it is. My brother Asher is very good at using these kinds of tactics."

Thaddeus smiled. "That just proves he's worried his skills aren't up to par, so he resorts to dirty tricks. We've moved the prototype to a new location with 24-hour security."

"That's good."

Lemira went to join the debugging process. This time, she would not lose.

She received a call from an unknown number. "Hello, Lemira. Let's meet at the coffee shop downstairs. We didn't finish our conversation at the hospital the other day."

It was Mrs. Sinclair.

Lemira clutched her phone. A part of her wanted to know what Mrs. Sinclair had to say.
