Lemira looked at Mrs. Amelia. She was certainly desperate to get Susanna out of trouble.
Debby stepped forward to block Mrs. Amelia. "I'm sorry, Ms. Langston needs to rest right now."
"Who do you think you are, trying to stop me?"
Mrs. Amelia's tone was haughty. She clearly looked down on Debby, seeing her as nothing more than a lackey from a PR team.
Lemira glanced at Debby. "You can step out for a moment. I'll talk with Mrs. Amelia alone."
Debby nodded. "Ms. Langston, call me if you need anything. Mr. Everhart gave clear instructions."
Mrs. Amelia watched Debby leave, then turned back to Lemira. "I see Orion has plenty of people watching you."
"It's just a PR team, my personal assistants, really. There's no 'watching' involved."
Lemira's calm response infuriated Mrs. Amelia.
Mrs. Amelia sneered. "Lemira, have you been watching too many TV dramas? Is this the first time you've had this kind of treatment?"
"Mrs. Amelia, have you forgotten? While the Langston family might not rank high in Orvin, back in Lyria, we have status."
"Status? With a company as insignificant as yours? Don't flatter yourself."
Lemira's gaze was cold. "From what I hear, the Sinclair family has been mismanaged for years and is on the brink of collapse. If it weren't for the charity contracts from the Everharts, you would have gone bankrupt long ago, falling even below the Langstons."
The color drained from Mrs. Amelia's face. "Where did you hear such rumors?"
"Whether it's a rumor or not, you know the truth, Mrs. Amelia. It's also why you're so shamelessly pushing for an engagement with Orion."
"Lemira, stop acting so high and mighty. My daughter was right, that expression of yours is truly infuriating."
Mrs. Amelia leaned closer, lowering her voice. "This truth is enough to send you into a spiral of agony. But if you leave Orion, you won't have to suffer so much. I'm helping you."
Lemira looked up, their eyes meeting.
"Didn't I say that no one was to disturb Lemira while she's resting?"
Orion pushed the door open, his face grim. He walked straight to the bedside, his sharp gaze fixed on Mrs. Amelia. "I heard you wanted to speak with Lemira alone. What did you say to her?"
Meeting Orion's stare, Mrs. Amelia instinctively took two steps back. "Nothing. I just saw your mother was in a difficult position, so I came to talk to Ms. Langston, hoping she'd stop causing so much trouble."
"Is that all?"
Orion's features were sharp and defined as he advanced on Mrs. Amelia, backing her toward the door.
