When They Beg I Rise (Lemira) novel Chapter 646

The girl, having been slapped, knew she had to be the scapegoat. She lowered her head and remained silent.

Seeing this, Mrs. Waverly stepped in to smooth things over. "Alright, the truth is out. Ms. Langston, you are innocent."

"Is a simple 'you are innocent' enough?"

Lemira stared at Susanna. "Calling me a thief over and over again—is this the kind of upbringing the Sinclair family provides?"

Susanna was now completely dumbfounded. Who knew Lemira would have an ace up her sleeve?

Just then, Mrs. Amelia arrived fashionably late, joining Susanna's side. "Susanna, have you gotten into trouble again?"

"Mom, I just thought my bracelet was lost. I had no idea my friend was the one who stole it. I didn't know!"

Susanna quickly hid behind her mother.

Mrs. Amelia turned to Lemira. "My apologies. Our Susanna is a bit impulsive and not very bright. She often does foolish things like this."

Lemira finally saw the infamous Mrs. Amelia. She looked a lot like Sophia.

She replied calmly, "Whoever did the wrong should apologize. Pushing your mother forward to take the blame is hardly a sign of filial piety, Susanna."

Mrs. Amelia's brow twitched. This girl was audacious.

Asher stepped forward, looking at Lemira. "That's enough. It's been proven that you had nothing to do with it. There's no need to be so aggressive."

This was a chance to earn a favor from the Sinclair family, which would benefit the Langstons.

Ignoring Lemira, Mrs. Amelia addressed Asher directly. "I'm truly sorry for this unfortunate misunderstanding."

"Not at all, Mrs. Amelia. My sister has a quick temper too and often speaks without thinking."

"That's just how children are. I won't hold it against her. We can have a private dinner later to resolve this. For now, let's not continue this scene at the Waverlys' party. It's unseemly."

Asher nodded. "Of course."

Lemira scoffed. "Fine. I'll be waiting for the Sinclair family's explanation."

Asher went to greet Mrs. Amelia, and Evelina eagerly rushed over to comfort Susanna, hoping to make a good impression on Mrs. Amelia.

Asher turned back to Lemira. "Come over here and apologize to Mrs. Amelia. You were very rude just now."

"It's quite alright. She's just a child. I can understand her being upset after being falsely accused."

Mrs. Amelia maintained a gracious attitude, making Lemira seem all the more unreasonable.

Lemira saw right through it and said nonchalantly, "I'll be going to the police tomorrow. I can't just swallow being framed as a thief."

After she said that, she noticed a shift in Mrs. Amelia's eyes.

Asher angrily pulled Lemira aside and hissed, "Lemira, have you lost your mind? If you just bow your head now and build a good relationship with the Sinclair family, it will benefit the Langstons."

Today marked the Langston family's official entry into this social circle; they were here to network.

All Lemira had to do was back down and let it go.
