Asher didn’t really believe Lemira could hold the position of Chief Engineer either. It had to be a ploy by Thaddeus, giving her shares for some ulterior motive.
If Lemira made a fool of herself later, it would be a good thing for the Langston Group.
Stella overheard their conversation and secretly pulled out her phone to message Lemira, warning her to be careful during her speech.
Lemira smiled when she saw Stella’s message.
She wasn’t afraid of any questions.
“Lemon.”
Thaddeus arrived and scanned the venue. “Where is he?”
“He got a call from the hospital right after we parked. It was about his grandmother’s condition, so he went straight there.”
Thaddeus sighed. “The old matriarch’s health has been declining these past two years. Her only wish is to see Orion get married. That’s why the Sinclair family has been so aggressive, spreading rumors and trying to use Orion’s sense of duty to force his hand.”
But at that critical time, Orion had chosen to take a trip to Lyria, perhaps to say goodbye to his past.
And then he met Lemira, and everything started spiraling out of his control.
Lemira fell silent for a moment. “Is Grandma Eileen’s condition very serious?”
“It is. Fortunately, they were able to stabilize her, but I hear it’s been touch-and-go. The old woman only has one wish.”
Thaddeus paused, looking meaningfully at Lemira. “If, and I’m just saying if, something were to happen to her, and Orion wanted to bring you to see her… would you do him the courtesy of not refusing?”
The question caught Lemira off guard.
She remembered Orion’s kindness to her, and how Mrs. Amanda had also treated her well.
She could only murmur, “Grandma Eileen will be fine.”
Lemira couldn’t help but recall that in her past life, the elderly Mrs. Everhart had passed away next year.
There had been rumors that the Everhart family had also lost money to PZ Group, and some whispered that the old matriarch had died from the shock of being swindled.
Thaddeus looked displeased. “I’ll have a word with her later. Asher’s character is questionable; he’s not fit to marry into Stella’s family.”
Lemira nodded. If Thaddeus was on Stella’s side, breaking the engagement shouldn’t be too difficult.
Soon, the conference began.
As one of the representatives, Lemira took a deep breath and walked onto the stage. Gripping the microphone, she began, “It’s an honor to be here today to discuss the latest advancements in artificial intelligence. I’d like to focus on several key points…”
Lemira spoke clearly and confidently, her poised demeanor drawing many eyes.
The other speakers were all technical experts chosen by their respective companies, most of them middle-aged men.
Lemira was the only woman, and by far the youngest.
Murmurs spread through the audience. “I heard she’s Maple Group’s Chief Technical Engineer, the top scorer on the national exams, and a top student at Orvin University.”
“Not only that, I heard Maple Group gave her founder’s shares just to keep her. The benefits must be incredible.”
