Chapter 360
Even though Leon was a prince and the army’s supreme commander, his command tent was scarcely different from those of his soldiers
Simple, even bordering on shabby.
The only difference was a massive table topped with a sand table model of the battlefield. Beside it sat a sturdy wooden chest filled with classified military documents.
As for his daily necessities, he only had a couple more sets of clothes than the soldiers, slept on the same hard cot, and his quilt was just a bit newer. Alt in all, his living conditions were just marginally better than those of his men.
She remembered the time she went on campaign with Leon and Garbisch. Their tents, and her own, had always been well–equipped.
Though not as luxurious as the royal residence or the Yates House, they always had everything they needed, never lacking in food or clothing
“How long has Prince Leon… been staying here?” Jessica murmured, though she wasn’t even sure what she really wanted to ask.
Elijah answered truthfully, “Not long. Prince Leon only stayed two days before heading to Vrahmont Mount.”
Jessica hesitated and softly asked, “So… is it because it’s just a temporary stop that it’s so bare?” She tried not to let herself feel worse, but at that moment, her heart ached for Leon.
Elijah scratched his head, not quite sure what her expression meant. ‘Was she… displeased?‘ he wondered.
Elijah said, “Miss Yates, neither I nor Prince Leon knew you’d be coming today. Had we known, Prince Leon would have certainly arranged more suitable accommodations for you…”
“He used to…” Jessica gazed at him, and suddenly, it all clicked.
Elijah saw nothing wrong with the tent.
But Leon was a prince!
He was the King’s son, the revered King of the Northern Borderlands!
Elijah finally caught her expression and quickly explained, “Prince Leon has always been this unpretentious. Back in the Northern Borderlands, he endured far worse conditions than this. The environment there was harsh, and the campaigns were grueling, but Prince Leon always lived with the
barest necessities.”
But now Elijah realized that Leon had a young lady by his side, and a refined woman like her probably wasn’t accustomed to such harsh conditions.
Elijah said, “It’s uncertain when Prince Leon will return, and even if he does, he’ll likely head straight back to Capitalia without staying. Miss Yates, if you don’t mind, please stay here for now. I’ll have someone tidy up and make the place comfortable for you. If you need anything, just let me know. I’ll fetch it for you right away.”
Jessica shook her head. “No need for that. Could you tell me what happened to Prince Leon after he entered Vrahmont Mount? I’ve received word that. Prince Leon is trapped there.”
Jessica walked up to the sand table, carefully examining the terrain of the Vrahmont Mount area depicted in it.
Thankfully, just as she had reconnoitered earlier at least the topographic map in Leon’s hand was accurate, and that was crucial.
“Here…” Jessica murmured, studying the marked spots on the sand table before glancing sideways at Elijah.
Elijah promptly replied, “Prince Leon has identified three maze–like stone forests so far. He is currently trapped in this particular sector of the stone
forest.”
