Chapter 359
Jessica was gone.
All alone, Jessica left Capitalia in the dead of night.
Garbisch could neither stop her nor follow her, as the King had summoned him for an audience the next day, precisely to prevent him from getting involved in this matter.
But the King likely hadn’t yet received word of Leon being trapped. What plans he would make after learning the news tomorrow was anyone’s guess for
now.
But he must appear before the King tomorrow, or the entire Yates family would face dire consequences.
Left with no choice, Garbisch sought out someone…
Jessica pushed on relentlessly, leaving Capitalia that night and, after a day and two nights of nonstop travel, finally reached Kabury County.
As soon as she arrived in Kabury County, the Yates family’s scouts stationed there rushed over to deliver their report.
Leon’s hundred–man squad had vanished without a trace. Now, not only could their own people not find them, but the enemy forces also appeared to be searching for them.
“Didn’t he set out with a thousand troops? Why only a hundred?” Jessica’s brow furrowed as she listened to the scout’s report.
“Prince Leon left his troops stationed outside Kabury County to protect the people,” the scout reported.
“Still outside Kabury County?” Without a moment’s hesitation, Jessica set off again. After another hour and a half of hard riding, she finally reached the military encampment outside Kabury County just as dawn was breaking.
Elijah, ranked third among the Eagle Troops, was the acting commander at the camp.
The moment Elijah saw Jessica, he was utterly shocked. “Ms. Yates, what brings you here? You…”
Elijah glanced behind her, surprised to see she had come alone on horseback. Just her and her horse, with not a single soul in sight.
Elijah’s expression darkened immediately. Though his tone remained respectful, it now carried a clear note of reproach. He said, “Ms. Yates, it’s dangerous here. How could you come all this way alone? Where is the Yates family or the Royal Guard? Why are you without an escort?”
How could she come here all by herself? What if she ran into danger on the way?
Though Jessica was a formidable martial artist, she always looked so delicate and fragile that anyone who saw her would instinctively feel compelled to
protect her.
Besides, as the future lady of Leon House, Jessica deserves their most vigilant protection!
“The Royal Guard couldn’t come here this time,” Jessica said simply. Yet those few words were enough for Elijah to grasp the situation.
Since the King wouldn’t allow the Royal Guard to get involved, the Yates family definitely couldn’t meddle in this either.
Elijah said respectfully, “In that case, Miss Yates, I will arrange an escort to take you back.” Since she was also from the Yates family, if the King found out, it would reflect poorly on the family.
Jessica swung down from her horse and met his earnest gaze. “Thank you for your concern, but since I’m here, there’s no way I’m turning back now.”
“Ms. Yates…”
Jessica pressed anxiously, “What’s happening with Leon? Why did he only take a hundred men inside? Why were you ordered to stay behind? Did he
