Chapter 335
Jessica couldn’t be bothered with Leon.
As they left, Shawn escorted Jessica to the front courtyard, not forgetting to defend Leon along the way. “Ever since Leon was stationed at the Northern Borderlands, he’s hardly had a proper night’s sleep. Only with you, Jessica, can he truly rest. Those were Lean’s sincere words”
Jessica rolled her eyes at him and said, “Are you suggesting it’s proper for an unmarried lady like me to let a man stay overnight?”
Shawn immediately lowered his head, not daring to say another word.
He thought to himself, ‘I’ve explained enough, but Leon truly meant every word he said!‘
When Jessica arrived at the hall, Lincoln was still waiting quietly.
However, it was already getting late. Lincoln hesitated a bit and said, “Ms. Yates, how about I send someone to escort you tomorrow?”
“That won’t be necessary,” she said. “At this moment, I am the Deputy Commander of the Royal Guard, not Ms. Yates. This visit to the High Court at night is official business. Why should I fear idle gossip?”
Jessica waved her hand. “Let’s go.”
Without hesitation, she strode out of the hall ahead of him.
Lincoln watched her retreating figure–slender and seemingly fragile, yet standing tall with quiet strength and pride. Her demeanor was a study in contradictions, yet these contradictions blended together with remarkable grace
They left the Yates residence and headed straight for the High Court, maintaining complete silence throughout the journey.
It was clear that Lincoln had indeed come today only to invite Leon to the High Court. He had brought just two constables with him.
Jessica asked, “Mr. Moore, why did you insist on bringing Leon here for questioning? You could have asked Leon anything back at Yates residence.”
As Jessica stepped into the High Court, she was immediately struck by a solemn yet chilling atmosphere.
How many had died in this place? Yet how many innocent souls, from ancient times to this day, were wronged here?
Lincoln led Jessica into the main hall of the High Court and said, “After all, the Yates residence is not an official venue. This matter is far from ordinary. Unless we conduct the questioning here at the High Court, I won’t speak of it elsewhere.”
“Water for our guest,” he instructed.
It was clear from the way Jessica was being treated that she was being accorded the courtesy of an honored guest.
After water was served, all attendants withdrew, leaving only Lincoln and his scribe.
The scribe held an official record book, meaning that from this moment onward, every word Jessica spoke would be officially recorded.
Jessica sat up straight and said firmly, “Ask away, Mr. Moore. I’ll hold nothing back.”
From that point on, Lincoln asked the questions while Jessica answered each one.
True to her word, she withheld nothing and answered every question with complete honesty.
“So, Prince Leon really did meet General Anthony last night? Why was this kept secret?” Lincoln was surprised by how detailed her account was.
