Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson) novel Chapter 2168

Surviving an accident with an out-of-control truck usually comes with low odds.

Hence, the fact that Nathaniel seemed to have gotten off lightly with only minor injuries seemed skeptical.

Was it really just luck?

Lionel walked over to the foot of the bed and knocked on Nathaniel's cast with a sly grin.

"Oh, you hurt your leg?"

Nathaniel frowned, hissing slightly.

While he did sound like he was in pain, his voice carried a playful tone as he said, "Hey, my wife is just right there. Do you really think you can get away with hurting me?"

They all turned to Mavis, who had remained quiet and almost invisible since entering the room.

Startled by the sudden attention, Mavis nervously fidgeted with her hands, avoiding their gaze.

Nathaniel went on, "I'm the unfortunate victim of someone else's mess. Elliot, you'll have to vouch for me."

Elliot's expression remained calm as he met Nathaniel's eyes.

"And what exactly do you want me to vouch for?"

"If today's trip to court hadn't been leaked, I doubt I would've ended up in this accident. So, technically, Mavis has some responsibility for this. I think it's only fair that she stays and takes care of me until I'm fully recovered. Wouldn't you agree, Elliot?"

Even if Mavis were not directly involved, a wife would typically be expected to care for her injured husband.

Elliot remained neutral, unwilling to meddle in their issues.

"That's between the two of you. You should decide for yourselves."

As he spoke, he glanced over at Lionel.

Lionel caught on immediately and pulled an iPad from his pocket.

"Alright, the sympathy visit is over. Time to take your statement. Tell me everything again—the location, time, and details of the accident."

Nathaniel cooperated fully, recounting the same story as before.

While they recorded his statement, Mavis stood quietly by the side, listening without interrupting.

In just a few minutes, the statement was complete.

Lionel turned off the iPad and said, "Get some rest. We'll be back tomorrow to go over the details again."

Elliot left the room first, with Lionel following closely behind.

Then, she resumed peeling it.

As she focused on the task, Nathaniel stared at her face.

His gaze was intense, almost too much to bear.

It made her uneasy, and she quickly found a topic to break the silence.

"I didn't leak our plan to finalize the divorce today, Evan did. He didn't mean to. He never expected it would put you in danger or that someone with a grudge against the Nicholls family would use this opportunity to go after you."

Nathaniel leaned back against the headboard, his expression turning grim.

"Your friend really enjoys meddling in other people's affairs, doesn't he?"

Nathaniel could not stand Evan.

Mavis continued, "I know it was wrong of him, and I'll make sure he apologizes. I realize you don't want him lingering in Froania, and I feel the same. I'll arrange for him to head back soon. I need someone trustworthy to keep an eye on things with the company in Vraeyce."

Nathaniel was surprised.

He smiled and asked, "Well then, should we also hold off on talking about the divorce? Maybe wait until I've fully recovered first?"
