Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson) novel Chapter 2150

Mavis' response was casual, yet Nathaniel felt a pang in his heart.

Without warning, he pulled her, along with the blanket, into his arms.

His long lashes trembled slightly, concealing the storm of emotions raging inside him, each breath more difficult than the last.

Memories of Evan's words from the previous day echoed relentlessly in his mind.

"She had prenatal depression, and after giving birth, she didn't get the proper care she needed. Both her physical and mental health worsened. Alone in a foreign country with an elderly mother, she had to take on several jobs just to survive. The first time I met her was in the hospital after she had slit her wrist. She was rushed into the ER. Have you not noticed the scar on her wrist since she returned? Then, Ms. Lawson came and encouraged her to keep going, even if it was only for the chance of seeing Callum again…"

"The second time I saw her, she was sitting in a hospital garden, staring blankly into space, wearing a hospital gown. Sunlight fell over her, her skin so pale it looked like snow, her golden hair framing her like an angel. Yet, she was fragile, like a porcelain doll on the verge of breaking. I remember thinking how badly I wanted to take her home and protect her."

"And that's just the beginning. There's so much more. Do you want to hear it…"

Nathaniel's thoughts were a tangled mess as he held Mavis tighter against him, his hand slipping under the blanket to touch her wrist gently.

His fingertips brushed over her skin, feeling for the scar.

There it was.

A thin, barely noticeable line.

Since she had returned, he had grabbed her wrists countless times.

Sometimes in anger, purposely grabbing her hard to punish her,

Yet, he had never noticed that scar.

Her depression had started because of him, but it was someone else who had helped her heal…

Nathaniel's heart was aching, and the pain was unbearable.

He wanted to say something, to explain—but no words came.

Where could he even begin?

Mavis could not read his mind, and she was getting uncomfortable being trapped in his embrace.

She instinctively tried to pull away.

"Don't move. I'm not going to do anything. Just… let me hold you for a little while, and then I'll leave."

Mavis remained silent but did not pull away.

After a while, her tiredness took over, and she fell asleep again.

She woke up to the delicious smell of food, and the space beside her in the bed had long gone cold.

The simple, delicious meal helped soothe some of the frustration she had been feeling.

Later that afternoon, Troy arrived at Ascend Apartment with Evan.

Mavis had already received word and was waiting downstairs for them.

Troy stepped out of the car first and approached her, whispering, "Mrs. Nicholls, you should head inside. There are too many blind spots on this street, and there could be paparazzi watching."

With news of her pending divorce from Nathaniel still buzzing in the media, being cautious was the smart move.

Mavis nodded and made her way back to the apartment.

When she and Evan finally saw each other inside, Mavis immediately noticed the bandages wrapped around his forehead.

He had clearly hurt himself, and though the bruising on his face had faded, there were still faint traces of it.

It was obvious he had been roughed up over the past few days.

However, Evan immediately noticed the marks on Mavis' neck—several faint bruises that anyone could recognize.

With a hint of sadness in his eyes, he asked, "Mae, did he force you into this?"
