"No!" Mavis was adamant. "We can't let the baby stay with Nathaniel. He doesn't love him and even calls him a bastard. He won't take good care of him."
Ella replied, "Mae, be reasonable. Nathaniel will eventually find out the baby is his. If he doubts it, he can get a paternity test. Besides, the Nicholls family is prestigious in Froania. The baby will lack nothing and will receive the best education."
Mavis was caught off guard.
She had forgotten to consider the baby's future…
If she took him away with her and they lived in poverty, would that be fair to him?
"B-But, he's the only one I have. If I don't have him, what's the point of me living?"
What if Nathaniel continued to make things difficult for her and the baby…
The entire ward fell into silence.
The baby's future was a complicated issue.
After some thought, Sheena proposed a compromise. "Mae, how about this? The baby stays with Nathaniel until he turns six. I'll visit regularly and send you photos and videos of him. After he turns six, we'll give him the choice. If he wants to leave the Nicholls family and live with you, Elliot and I will do whatever it takes to bring him to you. Does that sound good?"
…
On the island, there was a rare calm after the storm.
Nathaniel and his men had arrived on the island and had another clash with Declan's team.
Both sides suffered heavy injuries, and neither gained the upper hand.
Kristen did not love Kai and was ruthless to him.
However, she loved Nathaniel, and she did not want to see the conflict between Nathaniel and Declan escalate further.
Kristen stubbornly shook her head.
"I know what you're going to ask."
She chuckled bitterly and continued, "I look like Sheena. It was originally just a coincidence, but the Nicholls family previously harmed Daddy's relatives, so he has a deep grudge against you. He knew you liked Sheena, so he groomed me to mimic her mannerisms and speech. The first time I saved you in the fishing village wasn't a coincidence. He planned that. There's no real gratitude, just manipulation. You're here because you're worried he might act against the Lawson family, and you want to confirm it, right?"
She smiled and continued, "Don't worry. Daddy holds no grudge against the Lawson family. He won't use me to go after them. He sees you as a thorn in his side and just wants to remove you. I know you don't love me," she sighed, her smile turning sad.
"During the time I spent with you, although you took care of me, you always maintained a respectful distance, never forgetting you were married. I won't pester you further."
Nathaniel listened quietly, his gaze softening.
"Go ahead and leave. I'm his. He's come for me, and I'll go with him."
With that, Kristen turned her attention back to Declan's side.
