Ella watched Mavis' retreating figure and said, "Sir, this isn't something to joke about."
"I'm not joking. I genuinely like her. It was love at first sight, and I'm determined to pursue her."
Ella was taken aback by how casually he spoke of love at first sight.
Besides, Mavis was pregnant. What was with this guy's taste?
Ella frowned, claiming she had work to do, and quickly left.
Gavin Jurman, a recent college graduate full of youthful enthusiasm, was not deterred by Ella's reluctance.
The next morning, he began his pursuit of Mavis.
When Mavis opened her door early in the day, she was met with a bouquet of vibrant red roses.
Gavin stood there, offering the flowers.
"You're truly beautiful. Even though you're pregnant, you haven't lost a bit of your charm."
Mavis' smile twitched awkwardly as she took the flowers.
"Thank you."
"Did I scare you? Do you have any plans today? If you're working on the farm, I'd be happy to help."
Mavis was about to decline when she noticed Nathaniel's bodyguards peeking around the corner of the hallway, keeping a close eye on her.
Lately, she felt like she was constantly being watched.
The ranch was spacious, with many fields, and Nathaniel's bodyguards had nowhere to hide.
It was hard to avoid them, and their presence was becoming increasingly annoying.
Though she wanted to refuse Gavin's offer, she accepted the flowers and said, "I appreciate your willingness to help, but it should be just as friends."
Gavin shrugged and smiled. "Understood."
Mavis and Gavin walked side by side on the vast field, with Gavin leading a miniature horse.
From a distance, they seemed to be chatting and laughing.
Nathaniel was fuming, and the cold aura around him was unmistakable.
His injured hand, still wrapped in bandages, clenched into a tight fist, with the white bandages soon showing faint traces of blood.
Even Troy felt as if he could almost taste the jealousy emanating from Nathaniel, and he noticed Nathaniel's expression was as though he was about to unleash a storm.
Terrified, Troy quietly advised, "Mr. Nicholls, your hand is still injured. Please don't push yourself too hard. Mrs. Nicholls and that gentleman are probably just friends. Look, they seem to be behaving properly."
Before Troy could finish, Gavin and Mavis suddenly stopped.
Gavin reached out to brush some hay from Mavis' ear, which looked like Gavin was touching Mavis' face from Nathaniel and Troy's side.
Troy's face went pale, and he stuttered, "Mr. Nicholls, w-wouldn't do something like that. It's not what it looks like. In public, Mrs. Nicholls would never—"
