Twisted Ties of Love (Izabella Salotti and Brett) novel Chapter 578

Bunny had never given much thought to the inheritance.

The Dempsey Group's financial holes were slowly being patched up, and this money could make a considerable difference. It had the potential to catapult the Dempsey Group to new heights.

But the money wasn't hers. It didn't belong to her. She couldn't take what wasn't rightfully hers.

Back in the day, Patrick had bequeathed a portion of Windham Group shares in her name, but she had found them useless and eventually handed them over to Nathaniel.

Firstly, to regain her son, and secondly, because she never coveted the Windham fortune.

Being born a Windham woman often meant a life not of one's own choosing, like a pawn on a chessboard—either to be manipulated or traded. Her marriage into the Dempsey family was a strategic alliance; she had expected a life akin to a marionette's but had never imagined she'd encounter true love.

In their elite circles, spending a lifetime with one's true love was exceedingly rare, which made Bunny cherish her love all the more.

With Brett's demise... the Windham legacy had ended... A lineage that had tormented generations had finally dispersed...

This, perhaps, was the outcome Brett most desired.

Izabella donated all the money in Brett's memory. There were now Brett Avenue, Brett Bridge, Brett School, Brett Street...

Three weeks after Brett had passed, Izabella visited J City, accompanied by Casey and Bunny. Beck, with his infirm legs, stayed home, while Wendy managed the company affairs.

May was already heating up. The last time they visited was in the fall, and now, summer had arrived almost in the blink of an eye.

Cicadas, which were supposed to emerge in July, were prematurely filling the air with their songs. Izabella gazed at a cicada perched on a tree, momentarily lost in thought.

The Windham family cemetery was on the hillside. Izabella didn't climb up but left the daisies she brought at the base of the hill.

Bunny had always been too intimidated to meet his gaze, but now she could look him in the eyes, even if it was just a black and white photograph.

Patrick's eyes were dark and profound, gleaming with an indefinable light, as if he longed to convey a message.

Perhaps... even as this final photograph was taken, Patrick had his own regrets.

Bunny laid down the bouquet and departed. With Brett gone, did he, like Izabella, have a chance at a new life?

Such notions once seemed like fairy tales, but now, what was truly impossible?

In this life, someone had taught Brett how to love. If given another chance, surely he would cherish it well.
