The phone rang at the most inconvenient time possible, just as David was trying to enjoy a rare moment of peace. He fished his cell out of his pocket, irritation creasing his brow as he checked the caller ID.
It was his dad.
An incoming call from his dad was a surefire sign of trouble. David answered brusquely, "What's up?"
"I need you home. Now."
"Why should I bother coming back?"
"Do you have any idea how much trouble you've caused me? If you're not back here today, I swear I'll break your legs."
David scowled, his annoyance growing. He was too old for these kinds of threats. At first, he didn't take his father's words seriously, not until he saw a line of burly men in suits across the street. Leading them was a familiar face—the bodyguard who was always shadowing his dad.
That's when David knew his dad meant business.
He pondered over his father's words. Trouble? When had he stirred up trouble? He'd been nothing but professional on set, never once letting his true identity slip.
Seeing the posse of bodyguards his dad had sent, looking ready for a showdown, it was clear he had no choice but to go back.
"Bell, let me call you a cab to get you home. Sorry, but I've got to run," David said, realizing Bell had overheard his conversation.
Bell, who had quietly sensed David's predicament, insisted, "Don't worry about me, I can get a cab myself. You should hurry."
